Good Day
Just looking for an idea of the roster for a B777 SFO at turkish.
Do they upgrade ?
What is net pay after all taxes.
Can you easily commute between IST and NAP, 3 to 4 times a month

I assume you mean FO as SFO is only given after time served with the company, but if you have time on type your pay grade may be higher..trying to commute 3/4 times a month means you will be spending all your off days travelling, aim for 2 times a month and you won't be disappointed. Upgrade! in nearly 7 years I have never seen a yabanci FO get upgraded on the triple..but that doesn't mean it can't happen, just as likely to see Elvis in a chip shop.

Longhaul
Just to share some info for Crew considiring a career in thy on the longhaul fleet and want to commute, you should consider the following. Turkey is going to apply the EASA ftl in 2016, or 2017 I have no exact date for the implementation sorry.
What this means is that the turkish DGCA ftl wich gave you Extended Range (ER) off days after you're flight are not going to be planned anymore because EASA allows the planned off days to be used in Lieu off restdays, this was not the case with the DGCA ftl.
So in summary, you have to be in istanbul 12 hours before duty start( new company rule ) which in practice would mean a day before your flight and then on top you lose your ER rest day's...so if you do to the math you are going to lose some significant off days in case you are commuting
If the TIS( union) negotiations in December will be in our advantage which i doubt, these ER OFF days could be negotiated back into the contract at least this is what I hope, for the long haul guys and girls.
Any people with more knowledge on the subject, who care to share ?
Happy landings

Although I've not heard this, it is entirely possible.
You have to understand, these guys change the goal posts all the time. They just can't help themselves. You have to be very weary making any career decisions with THY, as what you sign for, may be completely different down the line.

From what I heard its a complete disaster good for retiree going to WB to integrate their pensions , people that cannot make it in real airlines and a vast assortment of desperates ran by a bunch of " managers" with the style of the Ottoman industrial revolution if ever there was one. I had friend there they all made a runner at the first occasion. All told me that their arrogance and incompetence are directly proportional to their delusions about the Airline and the country. Friend told me they treat you as slave on narrow body but if you leave they take it personal and get very offended.

HR certainly seem to have their knickers in a twist at the moment, I know of a couple of Yabanci that joined with Degrees but now the company is asking for a translation of all the subjects studied year by year as and this has to be Notorised as the DGCA do not now accept the original University issued Degree certificate. In Turkey the Devlet Lise shows the subjects for the Diploma year on year but in Europe we do not have this system.. net result been told to wait until 6500 hrs plus for the upgrade to be considered! Frankly its embarrassing as we have only had Yabanci for 10 years now! come on HR..

Cucuotto, as with any airline what is written in the Part D and Part A is approved by the regulating authority, if THY want to say all Captain candidates must be blonde, they can do so.. the issue is that the DGCA approve the manuals and they interpret the submitted documents as they see fit. There is nothing to be gained from inventing rumours on this forum and the situation regarding upgrading must be very frustrating to say the least to the potential candidates. Lets be clear, there have been some upgrades of foreign FOs on the narrow fleet, I have never seen in 7 years on the triple. The FOs I spoke to netted 7300 Euro last month and are not complaining about the salary (albeit reduced with Lira/ Euro exchange) they are simply wondering why is it worth staying when Pegasus offer fast track upgrades without all the nonsense. The " atmosphere" on narrow body is chalk and cheese to WB. The issue is now personal security with instability in the region and many close to retirement are thinking along these lines.

Including the bonus in the figure is a little misleading. If I included my bonus, I'd be staying here VERY happy

Really! you must fly with the moaners then.. let's get real, this salary for an FO is above industry standard and living costs are cheaper, the WB FOs are choosing to live in their home countries, that's up to them. Now, before we go down the Fly Dubai comparison, you have to look at the cost of not living in a desert toilet block and the downside of the sand pits.I agree the bonus " distorts " the earnings, on the other hand have you ever not received a bonus? in other words we call call it a quarterly " extra pay" which, in fact, is part of the salary package. The CRM/ Hocam issues I didn't experience as a DEC but I know they exist, having said that, the huge cultural differences have a lot to play in this respect. If you are an ex-mil skipper that is only used to you speaking when he gives permission it is clearly a problem when some young FO rabbits as they would do in their own country. Nothing is perfect and I suspect things will get worse in the future.

As far as I'm concerned, there is no "Bonus" anyway. It's a complete scam with words. All they do is withhold your salary and give it to you in 3 months and call it a Bonus. To me a Bonus is something you may get in addition to your salary as an extra, not something that is relied upon. Does anyone calculate their salary here without adding in the bonus?? I don't think so, or no one would ever join.
Kirks, you say the bonus may distort things, but we always get it. Well yeah we do, but not every month. A sensible calculation would be to take 3 months (without overtime) and divide by 3, as I think Furbpilot did. That is a meaningful number.
I don't share your thoughts either on "above industry standard". Without overtime, I just don't see it for a gig as an expat. As for your "if they choose to live in their home countries" ..... Obviously to you an FO isn't entitled to a life with his family until he gets 4 bars. I guess he could live in beautiful Istanbul and pay through the teeth for schooling if he has kids. Being an expat should have rewards financially. I guess that's me living in a past dreamland I know. Yes, the desert may suck, but at least the family is provided for financially. Here, you are on your own. So that's why they should be able to commute with a healthy balance of free days and money. If THY give more thought to young families living in Turkey, then I'd be on the same page as you.
I don't see my FO's as "Moaners", just idle chat about them relocating to other Airlines. I reckon flying with some of the Turkish Ego's here would be a challenge, especially with the performance displayed by some of them. Maybe we're on different fleets??

The point I am making is this, if FOs or Captains choose to live in their home lands and it costs more then that's up to them. Without doubt it's a trade between lifestyle and costs. Now not all FOs are single, some have family and the school costs etc in turkey negate the savings made in accommodation. I don't meet any new start FO obviously so I can't comment on their salary just the 3 or 4 year guys I have contact with. I agree the maths seem bizarre when you look at agency fees and moreover how long it takes to convert a new start to a productive worker. The influx of ex mil guys, doesn't help to support improvement in conditions and some changes are badly needed. I was told at a meeting of tm that EASA will be at least 2 years. The general thoughts are that THY pay more than anyone else in Turkey and that is as far af the ecosphere telescope can see . 6 months later I'm finished anyway but I think what where generally regarded as the good old days have gone with rent prices sky rocketing and rosters becoming too unstable .

A total of 42 foreign pilots out of more than 700 have resigned from Turkish national carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) since the beginning of the year. The pilots reportedly quit on the grounds that they face decreasing pay, as they are paid in Turkish lira, which lost 25 percent of its value against the dollar over the past year. As a result, they applied to Qatar Airways, which pays salaries in dollars. The airline company has increased the number of foreign pilots working in is fleet. THY, which employs foreign pilots from all over the world, recently recruited pilots in its Moscow office. The carrier is set to recruit 4,000 pilots by 2021 as a part of its growth objectives.
THY is holding road shows both at home and abroad to satisfy its pilot requirements and to promote the benefits it will offer to prospective staff. The company has a goal of training 500 pilots a year at the Turkish Airlines Flight Training Academy, which was founded in 2005. Aside from its events in Moscow, THY will continue to hold introductory meetings in Europe and Gulf countries in the upcoming days.
