Kirk they might not have liked me but trust me not many ( if any) expat really likes THY..they are just opportunistically playing the game for one reason or the other..until they just vanish. That's what THY have been calling for with its "style" and I suspect that is what they really want: short term exploitation of foreigners until locals will be ready to be exploited.. Enough back to my golf clubs...

It seems to me that even local pilots are far from being happy. The management model is based on a stale paternalism, formalism and reciprocal mistrust not really what you want for a company operating in a sensitive business , globally and in the 21st century.

Roster
Hello,
Could someone working with Turkish on the A320 provide an example of a roster - destinations, layovers, etc?
Would a European pilot working for them be getting layovers in places like Baghdad or some of the other 'garden spots' Turkish flies to?
Thanks

Tasmanian..no one here is being rude. Still I don't understand your point. If you live in Turkey, pay schools in Turkey have a loan in Turkey the TRY devaluation does not effect you if not when you got to buy imported goods which you can still avoid if you want. But if you have a family abroad, a mortgage, bills to pay like 99,9% of expatriate pilots, it does. This is why other airlines have an exchange rate protection even if their currency are pegged to the USD. I think it is fair to say that THY is not doing much to help expat if not to provide the hotel or house allowance for a limited number of pilots which is by itself unfair to say the least. I think your suggestion to refer the union is a joke..right ?
To answer NEdude THY operates to many critical areas including Iraq and Somalia and to many airports at the boundary with Syria and/or PKK now very hot areas and you will fly there no doubt. Security is becoming more of real issue by the day.

CPH would be wonderful. The EASA license is standing in my way (I have an FAA and Transport Canada ATPL). A bit hard for an old guy like me with 20 plus years of professional flying experience, I have a hard time getting past all the unnecessary BS in the 14 theory exams. Working on it slowly but surely, but until then I need to find the best options out there that are not in China (been there for two years and it is killing me).

Joking of course.. The don't need to implement currency protection because they can always lower requirements and find people, like age requirements, they asked to be 37 years ago for narrow body fleet and now require 30 at the time of screening and there are MANY airlines with much worse pay or economic situation in their countries!

Tasmanian form your delusions you must be Turk. My friend you and your fellows Turkish aviators one day or the other will have to come to terms with the fact that Turkish Airlines is far from being the best European Airlines when it comes to the technical side of the business. Beside the exceptions your managements has vastly no clue, your standards are low, your English is bad, your manuals are often wrong and you are essentially taking chances everyday.
Moreover the Turkish culture badly fits into aviation as it values seniority and age over skills and competence and the" civil" ( there is actually no real civil aviation in Turkey) aviation scene it still badly influenced by the as strong as detrimental interference by the military " mafias". The number of accident you suffered ( you lost two Airbuses this year and just by pure luck nobody was hurt) pretty clearly prove this. Expat were imposed by insurance companies after Amsterdam and as a condition to maintain coverage . And there is been some improvement probably in recent years which still you manage to fok up with your "nationalistic" bull**** attitude, discriminating expatriate , playing with seniority for upgrades and for wide body promotion not really giving a good impression of your selves. Many good and dedicated aviators left ( including me ) with a bitter taste in their mouths as this could have been the best job in Europe or just nearby should THY have had another type of management.. Still there are rumors of massive resignations in recent months as again THY is far from offering the best deal around and many other airlines , now even in Europe are hiring. The TRY is diving and if continues like that with no adjustment THY will be left with pilot from Iran, Bangladesh and other developing countries and again the risk of an accident will go up.
Looking at the situation right now, talking with the few friends still there flying 100+ hours per month for lack of crews for 40% less real money and all looking for alternatives, I thank God I ran at the right moment. The country and airline are in the grip of people that will bring them down rather than give them up...

Interesting BBC article on low cost airline HR tactics!
Trapped in the gutter: The street cleaner with four degrees - BBC News
Those that sign P2F and P2Type should think about that one and which position they are in, as regards who is resposible for chaps getting stuck in the gutter.
As one poster said recently, "Pilots are their own worst enemies, not the hairlines".
India and Blighty have a lot in common!

The Turkish Lira approached 4.7 to the £ today.
Will it reach 5 ?
Its quite stressful for guys that were hoping to save or pay overseas school fees.
The B777 must be a real attraction to keep guys there. Even after tax, alot of guys in UK are earning more .

Even on the 777 it's now reached a stage where it's to the point of moving on somewhere else. They have been giving expats more Sunday work (extra pay) and overtime, and even then it's just not up to pace with the industry as a whole.
I haven't heard anything at all as to whether they are looking into this, as all we get is these ridiculous "cost of living" increases which now do not come close to the loss in real wages.
It is bloody annoying that these guys charge more and more for tickets every month, as the ticket prices in Lira are pegged to hard currencies (Euro/US Dollar). I don't blame them, I mean you would have to! But they insist paying their slaves, er sorry, staff, in Turkish Lira.
TK... Start paying your employees in a hard currency!! Stop treating all of us like we are uneducated morons that cannot see why this system is in place!! EVERYONE should be payed in a hard currency, as that's what YOU are paid in for your tickets!
