Staff Discount Holidays
Greetings all
Could anyone please give some information about staff travel, perks, upgrades, ID tickets (cattle and business), discounts at hotels and any other useful advice or tips.
There doesn't seem to be any info on the search so I guess it might be nice to know where we can go, and how cheaply, what the hell we work in the business!

Apologies in advance to Alvin if he/she is a genuine airline pilot (in which case why not ask colleagues/staff travel dept?) but my virus checker has flagged a possible journalist/taxman alert on this one.

Thankfully no, not the tax man or journo.
Just working in a small opertaion in the Middle East (avoiding our friend mentioned above!) where there isn't a great deal of info of where to go or who to go to, we get ID tickets but that is as far as it goes, so any info you could offer would be helpful, I have had a look a Touchdown, who advertise in the back of BA News, but don't seem to be any wiser.

If you do a search for 'interline travel' on the web, you will find plenty. The industry tends to be dominated by American companies selling cruises, but there are good deals around. Ticket [flight] prices tend to be dictated by the particular greements that your airline has with others. Hotel/cruise deals are more generalised. Some of the best deals on accomodation can be had by dealing direct with a hotel and asking for their airline rate.

Alvin – sorry to doubt you but PPRuNe is littered with all sorts of ulterior motives unrelated to professional aviation.
You say you get some ID travel, that’s a start, but is that with the wide range of carriers that pilots employed by, say, major western airlines have access to? If not, and if you don’t have an interline department, can you get any assistance from a nearby ‘major’ airline’s interline office? Perhaps the national airline of the country in which you are working, or an airline with whom you already get IDs. Most seem to be ID90 subload, some ID50 confirmed, some business/first; there are also variations on eligible relatives etc. As you probably know, most interline schemes are based on reciprocity, so if your airline doesn’t give IDs, then you will have difficulty obtaining them for yourself.

Some hotels give crew discounts for leisure travel. In some cases they have a special central number for reservations, with others you have to negotiate with the individual hotel.
A few duty-free shops and shops in terminals give an airline discount and a few discos etc near airports grant discounted admission.
As you say, there’s nothing much written down (except that many major airlines have a staff travel booklet) and that’s probably just as well, otherwise it would only provide ammunition for the afore-mentioned journalists and taxmen! Good luck

Hey, found a great site for finding staff travel deals. This site has a portal that links to most all of the interline travel sites. They also have a forum dedicated exclusively to interline travel. Check out www.nonrev.net/
