Wink From Turbo prop to Jet

Well,
I am wondering how I will manage to move from my left hand seat on ATR with 4000 hrs command time to a jet position. Non JAA licensed, I am feeling stuck.
Who s got a bright idea?
Where to go ? Which airlines should I target ?
Help!
Cheers...

is the ATR MTOW over 20 tonnes?apply to Cathay Cargo in Europe, as long as u have 1000 over 20 tonnes, you have a chance, and again u dont need a Jaa ticket for them.

Cityjet. Many taken on recently with less time than that. RJ is almost a proper jet too.

I think if you having been flying turboprops al the time you would feel more comfortable flying right seat for a while. I went from left seat L-188 electra to the A310, and even having the command rating, I was more than happy to fly RHS to get used to a totally different world. There are some differences which I do not want you to discover on your own. Unless you do not want to feel comfortable, and make some stupid (normal) mistakes, which, with most airlines nowaday will put you back automaticly in that right hand seat. It is not just 4 gold bars and knowledge of SOP`s which make you a good jet pilot. But that is only my opinion of course. Some people think it is only a matter of flying hours. If you are short, I can spare a few thousand if you want.

Well, I am not looking for a direct LHS at all.
Rather a decent job for a serious outit. As a matter of fact, I d be delighted to learn all these new things from experienced skippers on jets.
However, no one seeems to care about my resume yet.
And I really can t afford a type rating with only slim chances with no jet time to get that jet job.
I ll keep on hunting jobs...
I thought about VAL but how serious are they when offering a jet position ? How long should I expect ?
Thanks to all for your replies,
Cheers.

Flying Mechanic,

Tell us more how you got from the 1900 to the Eva Md11? Where were you flying the B1900, and how do you like the MD11? Do you like Eva and Taipei? How often do you fly and where do you usually go? I think Discuss 2 should look into this also. Sounds interesting. Cheers!

discus2

which languages do you speak apart from English???

Might be that possibility.

Farnair in Switzerland used to pay for captains and offered conversion of license.

1 year licens conversion possible with ATR rating - then:

in this year you do your theoretical training and JAA examination

as we are in transition to EASA unsure about rules today.

cheers

(ex. ATR jockey as well - now enjoying the jets - haha 4 engines and still climbs like an ATR - AVRO 100 RJ)
