Starting Salary & Job Chances
Hi all,
I am currently trying to convince my bank manager to lean me a small amount of money (60k!!) to carry out my FATPL training. He has asked me what a typical starting salary may be once qualified and what is the likihood of gaining a job/ prospects once qualified.
I am unsure of starting salary as i've heard lots of different figures and a guess chances of gaining a job are pretty strong?
Could anyone help me clarify both of the above for those of you who have been there!
Thanks

Depends on where you go. Some can be up to £45K (jet) or £20K (tp), or if you go with some airlines particularly the large lo-cost irish one then bugger all!
As an average I'd say £30K

You probably don't want to hear this, but.....
Having seen lots of friends go through training over the past few years, I would say that unless on a scheme (CTC, Easyjet, Flybe etc) your chances of a jet job are pretty low. More likely turboprop, instruction or air charter. However I am sure that there will be jobs with Ryanair available but that scheme requires another large investment and the pay after that seems pretts low again (check hundreds of other threads on the subject)
If you are lucky (and a fair number are!!) then a jet job at a loco or charter would probably get you 30 - 40k in the first year and 50 upwards after unfreezing your licence (1500hrs) It really does depend whether you land on your feet or not.
If you haven't done already, I would suggest applying to various schemes which have airline attachment. That way you are (almost) certain of a job. Try CTC, Tfly and flybe.
