FAA rated pilot wanting to go back to Europe
Hi guys,
I was wondering if you could share some of your experiences and advices on a few questions I have. I am a FAA ATP rated FO for a 121 operator in the US with about 2000 total time of which 600 are in a CL-65 turbo jet. Being from France, I am very interested in going back home. How do I get my JAA license, do I need it, who is hiring, what are the current pay scales and bases...??? Appreciate all the help you can bring.

I suggest you write to the Personnel Licensing Department of the French DCA, outlining your qualifications and experience. They will give you a definitive answer, much more useful than informed speculation on PPRuNe.

Try some searching on these forums - there's a lot of detail and information on most of the questions you asked.
In short, you need a JAR licence - contact the administration of the country/countries you are interested in and they will help. Be prepared to have to take most of the ATPL exams and flight tests.
Quite a few airlines are hiring around Europe: as usual, experience on type makes it easier - but read through the forums, this is discussed daily on ppune for almost every airline. Ditto for pay and bases. www.ppjn.com also has some good information on airlines & T&Cs.
If you narrow down your needs & ask specific questions on specific airlines, you'll more likely get some useful information. But your starting point is to plan for the licence conversion as there are very few jobs in Europe for an FAA only licence.
