Question MyTravel Airways - Job security.

Could anyone please inform me as to the level of morale and perceived job security in MyTravel Airways at present, and indeed the financial situation of the company?

I have an interview in the not too distant future and it would be nice to hear from anyone on the 'coal face' with regard to your current conditions.

Thankyou in advance.

Earth Light.

You must be replying to the ad in FI, as a contract FO.

You'll be contract .... first to go, if you do a good sim, 6 months in you may be offered a permanent contract. If not stay on contract and first to go.

Expect to work hard, very hard and be based in BHX.

Desite all the bad press, I do belive the company and airline will survive, although promotion with be very very slow for numerous years!!

John Smith is right about Birmingham and the hard work. However I really don't think that time to a command would necessarily be any longer than with any other comparable airline though.

The previous management managed to mess things up to an unbelievable degree and as a result the cruel arc-lights of critical media attention have shone on the company. Industry insiders know that other companies have serious liquidity problems that are still hidden.

It is interesting that the Daily Mail which seems to have 'had it in' for MyTravel reported yesterday (10 Jan, Page 64) that MyTravel shares could move 'sharply higher'

Slightly off the thread but not entirely methinks reference the word "security".

Helen Keller once wrote:-

"Security is mostly a superstition. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing."

I really don't think security now exists anywhere in the pilot job market. Best tactics:-

1. "Mentally" quit your job.

2. Whilst in the job do it as professionally as you can (Reputation/Track Record?)

3. Whilst in the job look for the next one. (Reason - you can make the move when YOU want to and not as a result of company failure, "down-sizing" etv.)

Job security...who knows...as long as the salary comes in at the end of each month its not a problem. If I were anyone looking at joining, do so if for no other reason but to get an Airbus on my licence. Do 2 years see if they stay afloat then make a reasoned choice about where you want to be. Unless you are mixed fleet flying out of MAN or LGW, then I doubt you will want to stay.

Morale....similar to EZY I would say. Some are happy - those that are doing 550 - 650 hours a year. Those that are getting trashed with the LITE whip are generally not. The DFO has set a target for all pilots to fly 900 hours per year, and he won't rest until it happens. FACT - If you join today you will be sent to Brum. FACT - If you go to Brum you will do lo cost flying for short haul charter pay. FACT - No sector pay. FACT - whilst you at Brum will be doing 30 - 40 sectors in a winter month, your colleagues at East Mids will be rostered to fly less than 10 sectors a month. Roster disruption in summer 2003 was amazing. On average 60 - 70% of my roster was changed. Lunchtime starts became earlies, earlies became lates, nights became days - all with 12 hours notice.

Crewing levels...low and reducing daily. With 7 resignations last week, and about 20 waiting to go, this year is going to be hard work. We have only just interviewed for this summer season - it starts in 13 weeks - just about the length of notice you chaps / chapesses will be giving.

Having said all of that, generally the people are great. With a fair bit of movement in the management side recently, and a CP who kicks arse - things may improve. BUT WE NEED MORE PILOTS - and for the banks to keep the MyTravel Group alive.
