Figures on Q400

G'day,

Just after some information regarding the Q400 for a uni project. We've been told to set up an airline (of sorts) and to crunch the numbers in the hope of getting a better understanding of the money involved. (or so the teacher says! )

Anyway, we've based our Q400 in Christchurch flying backpackers to Queenstown (about 200nm). We've worked out this is around a 1hr trip. I am after a ball-park fuel figure for a sector of these dimensions.

While we are on the subject - what's a brand new Q400 worth?

Cheers,

Soulman.

According to a recent company magazine, the list price for a Q400 is $21.9M (I assume they used US$). For comparison, the smaller dash8's are all listed at $15.7M, which seems a bit odd (I'd expect some variation with the model).

Of course, whether or not its worth that much is perhaps a different question

Soulman,

It's a slow DH8-400 if a 200nm sector is an hour's flight, or a really quick one if the hour covers the return.

At a guess I'd have thought 40 mins for a 200nm sector in a 400.

Spot on Capt C. Probably burning about 700-800kg from start to shutdown.

I think GBP18 million has been mentioned recently.

MFS - Definately NOT worth that much!

check out the SAX Q400 thread on African Aviation - there's some TAS and fuel burn figures there.
