Mexico City Int'l takeoff length restriction
Concerning Mexico City Int’l (MMMX/MEX):
Why is runway 05L usable takeoff length restricted to 11,325’ from the full length of 12,966’?
05R does not have a usable takeoff length restriction, and it is only about 1,000’ south of 05L. It is not due to weight bearing capacity, because you can use that area for an aborted takeoff, or for a landing rollout on 05L.
Could it be because of a lack of a complete survey for obstacles? Since they restrict the use of 05L for takeoff beyond the 23R displaced threshold, they could use the landing survey for 23R to account for obstacles for the 05L departure area.
The only answer I have been able to give during Special Airport Qual checkouts is that the Mexican Aeronautical Information Publication and the Jepps list the usable takeoff length restriction without giving a reason.
Here are the numbers for 05L and then 23R:
5L 23R
TORA 11325 11932
TODA 11325 11932
ASDA 12966 12966
LDA 11932 11325
