DC10 vs. 757
Mate of mine is trying to decide which aircraft to transition to as FO:
Both aircraft fly similar rotations and pay is similar, so what are the finer attributes between the DC10-30 and 757-200ER?
1. Systems Comprehension?
2. Training Ease?
3. Flying characteristics?
4. Comfort/Workload?
Cheers!

The DC10 might be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to fly with more than 2 thrust levers and he just may come to appreciate the Flight Engineer like so many of us do (did).
I don't know what the 10 is like but the 75 has a very noisy cockpit.

I fly the 757 now - and I love it.
However, in this position I would go for the DC-10. It would be a great chance to fly with three engines, a Flight Engineer and on a bigger, less common aircraft.
If however he is worried about his job, a 757 rating might be more attractive to a different employer.
Good job - go for the 10.
Bad job - go for the 75.

I suppose you have to be realistic,
The 10 won't be around for too many more years.
There will be plenty of 75, and 76's around for a good two decades!
The Boeing option will offer more prospects........!

The company having the ten now will not be operating such aircraft too long anymore, so going with the ten might be a good thing to do. And unless it is a very whacky organsation they will pay the new type rating.

Apart from the FE, surely the biggest difference is EFIS/non-EFIS?
I fly an EFIS a/c.
I guess the 10 is non-EFIS.
I'd love to fly a non-EFIS a/c. You could call yourself a real pilot then.
But most would probably see that as a regression.
