CAA checks

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how often CAA examiners sit on the flightdeck of commercial jets to monitor the crew and/or company's procedures? Does this happen less regularly than internal line checks? Also, are these checks more "nerve-wracking" for the crew than a regular line check?

Thanks,
Nick
