Unhappy Driving Car from Uk to Cyprus

Has anyone driven a car from the Uk to Cyprus ( or had it transported)? Any tips on ports, ferry companies and time taken greatly appreciated.

Here is one suggestion: drive to Southern Italy to the town of Brindisi. It is located on the Adriatic in the area know as the "heel" (of the boot). Take a ferry from there to Patras, Greece; drive from Patras to Athens, then ferry from Athens to Cyprus. Check with a travel agent where you might be able to get specific details regarding schedules, etc.

To cross the channel just find out what the cheapest way is. After that do Paris, Lyon, over the Alpes into Italy (i advice you plan your journey so you drive in daylight in Italy!!!). It's not the quickest route but it's the cheapest, the alternative is to go via Geneva but you'll have to pay serious toll crossing the borders!
Now to cross over to Greece you can do it via Venice, Anconna or Brindizzi (excuse the spelling). All ferries go to Patra.
That's as far as I know...never done the Greece, Cyprus bit but I guess there must be a ferry from Patras or if not you go to Piraeus (about 1 1/2 hours drive into Attica) and take it from there.
Hope it helps

Cool

The RAC ( www.rac.co.uk )site gives route planning including Cyprus - unfortunately the AA only does mainland Europe, but may be worth comparing routes between ports.

Did this in the early 70s. Dover - Ostend (night stop) then Wurzberg (N/S); Plitvice (glorious Yugoslavian National Park - two N/S); Dubrovnik 2 N/S (breathtakingly beautiful); Pec (having climbed the Cakor Pass - adrenaline producing, in those days) N/S; Athens N/S; then to Piraeus and a day and a half to Limassol on the car ferry. Disembarking at Limassol was heart-stopping; self-drive down a very steep gangway onto a barely big enough pontoon to be towed to the quayside!! Super trip with some INTERESTING moments! Should be considerably simpler nowadays. Yugoslavia and the Dalmatian coast was marvellous but that, again, may well be very different. We didn't book any accommodation, just took B & B where available. Thoroughly recommend it.
