Hainan Airlines Senior F/O

Hi everyone,

I just received an email from "china pilot job" advising me HNA looking for
Senior 737 F/Os with more than 4000 on 737s (classics/NGs). I am wondering
if anyone out there received similar email previously or recently and had the interest
to pursue such opportunity? I did see on their website there may be an opportunity
for upgrade from this deal, which is what am looking for...but from my experience
and what I hear and read on p prune and other sites once you are hired in china as
F/O you will stay as F/O no changes to the terms & conditions in this regard.
Also I am wondering if anyone out there had any good/bad experience dealing with
"china pilot job" as an agency in landing flying job with HNA group?

The salary that is being offered is 60% of the captain's basic monthly salary of
$10800 +travel allowance+housing allowance+bonus= $10530/month based on
825 hours/year. Which works out to 75h/month based on 11 month given 1 month
vacation. Feel free to correct me if am off in my calculation or if you have
received other info. or know of other info.
$200/hour for overtime....I just
find this deal not bad based on my calculation!! but of course I may be off
in my figures for the total /month.

I highly appreciate any feed back from pilots that have accepted such deal by HNA
or who have dealt with "china pilot job" as an agent to land flying position with
HNA.

Feel free to pm me.

Happy flying

Do a search for other recent posts on expats at Hainan (on Pprune). Sounds like an absolute disaster for expats - training challenges, overt racism, payment issues, communications/cultural issues with other pilots and crew. Perhaps a look at Middle East options should be considered instead given the same fast market growth. Have not heard many positives about flying in China despite the numerous advertised pilot vacancies.

Good luck.

I am not sure about HNA offering FO positions. I have never seen it advertised, but maybe it is new. The only FO jobs I have seen are cargo jobs and recently some business jet jobs.

The Chinese are not short at all on FO's. What they can't train themselves, they send overseas for a year. Once they get on with the airline, they have an F!-F8 ranking and training system to move up the FO ladder. It is brutal and small mistakes will get you demoted backwards for long periods of time. I can't see an expat FO putting up with it. ANY expat FO.

As far as upgrade to Captain, I think it is just a carrot to get you to bite. Same same with the FO ratings. No expat would put up with what they would put you through. Since it is HNA, you can multiply what I just said by about 5X. Their line training for experienced type rated pilots is off the charts.

China will be short of Captains for a long time unless the world economy falls off the cliff. They unqualify captains almost as fast as the qualify them. A year ago we had 39 our of 150 local captains on medical leave. The average age is probably early 30's. Throw in disciplinary action, etc, they lose em as fast or faster than they can train them.

The same happens to expats, except we lose the job.
