you can pay to enter engineering college even if you have low marks, it wont cost you more than 10 lac on total, a degree can gurantee a stable job just like the guy said. I made the worst decision of my life to waste 25 lacs on pilot training and now its been near 2.5 years and not single interview for the pilot job, i am not alone there are many guys in my situation,
i am doing a degree thru correspondence so that i can able to find a decent job and try to make money that my parents spent on my training.
You can clearly see the situation, there is no gurantee in aviation as a pilot...todays situation is that you have to shed out lots of money on rating etc to get a job it can reach near 40 lacs same as the indigo programme, if you are rich then do it no probs, but if you have to waste your parents hard earned cash then i would advise you to stay back, do a degree and move on, i know its hard but this is how it is, remember there are over 8000 unemployed pilots and 1000s still training, some of them will never make it as pilots, those with money and power will make it, India already has the supply for the next 20 years and still in excess......
..anyway its your choice

IndiGo as far as I know has honored their previous cadet programs .
Infact I met one guy that was selected during the last cadet program with Sabena in december 2008
He finshed his CPL in september 2010
He just passed his RT exam during the June 2011 chennai attempt ( cleared all DGCA papers )
Once he gets his Indian DGCA license he will begin his A320 type rating

Now about the current cadet program
If you have the money go for it . You will only pay for the type rating once you get your CPL .
And CAE NFTI also has an agreement in place for their graduates with Qatar Airways to join them as second officers provided you pass their assessments and you pass your Indian DGCA ATPL exams ( aka frozen ATPL )
But read and study the terms and conditions of the LOI very carefully before you invest any money with them
For eg they might cancel the agreement if you dont pass the DGCA exams within a specific number of attempts or specific marks in the exams ( just speculation )
And get your Class 2 and Class 1 medical ASAP

People like you who think that becoming a pilot is a good option if you can not score good marks in your degree, disgusts other pilots.
Because of people like you there is so much bull****ting of the deserving pilots.
What part did you not understand that its risky and a lot of struggle is there. If you want to be a pilot and very serious about it LOI n other things mustn't bother you. First atleast clear their preliminerary stages and then talk about LOI.

@tulsiaviator
Agreed tulsi the concept of if u fail at every professional degree and are a drop out then go for a CPL Is completely disgusting and that’s one of the reasons why many deserving pilots are struggling tog et a job but then every man is entitled to make his own decisions .
@viral
Well my friend I hope you are not in the impression that ground studies for pilots will be easier to handle than a degree especially when you will be going for an atpl later and even before that When you go for airline exams
The other thing I would like to suggest you is that please take a complete overview before you Jump into decisions, 45 lakh is a substantial amount of money and cannot be justified no matter what
You can get a CPL and type rating for less than that any day , also I will tell you a truth here which many of the members here will endorse; we never thought that we will have to sponsor our type rating especially before joining an airline but today even after TR its hazy
Also if I may suggest the journey from class 2 medical to LOI contains a good amount of studies So starts with a book if you can, try “from the ground up” see how you feel ……
As far as letter of intent is concerned which you are excited about, ask kingfisher cadets who are still struggling although it will eventually be honored but demand and supply cycle can lead to strange situations……
Also I may suggest please stop asking each and every doubt before going through the forum, you will get most of the answers from medical to LOI
Please be informed brother that I am not here to discourage you or anything but your motivation and focus is something that needs to change
Godspeed
