I flew MAS a few years ago.

Amsterdam-Frankfurt (774)
Frankfurt- KL (774)
KL-Perth (A330)
Sydney- KL (773)
KL Frankfurt (774)
Frankfurt-Amsterdam (774)

Only on the sector Sydney-KL I was allowed to visit the flight deck, but that was probably because this route was operated by Ansett.
Sure the f/a's are really pretty and have a plastic/fake smile, but I always got the impression that there is a guise of secrecy surrounding visits to the cockpit.

Maybe the take-off out of Frankfurt on my way back was an example of why MAS does not like independent observers.
During climb out (at perhaps a few thousand feet altitude) all throttles went to flight idle (all pax looking at eachother VERY scared !) and I clearly saw a Cessna on the left hand side of the aircraft passing very closely. Perhaps it wasn't MAS's fault, but to me it explained the difficulty of letting people onto the flight deck. Especially after the SIA accident (and the MAS fuel inccident at LHR) it appears that some SE asian airlines have a lot to cover up and do not like nosy pilot arround who can not be controlled by management.

What is there to hide ?

Bokkerijder, with an attitude like yours,no wonder you were not allowed in the flt deck for a visit.

Remember,a flt deck visit is a privilige not a right.Obviously you are not accustomed to aviation with your references to 774 & 773. FYI Bokkerrijder,on initial t/off in a heavy jet the thrust (not throttles) are at their max thus causing lots of noises. When an altitude restriction causes a level off during initial departures (especially out of FRA) the thrust will reduce (causing the lower level in noise) to allow the a/c to level off without increasing speed as ATC only allows a max of 250 knots below 10000 feet.BTW, how on earth did you know the throttles were at idle when you are not in the flight deck?

Obviously you're trying to smear our good name.FYI,we do allow flt deck visits, provided there is NO SECURITY THREAT & it doesn't bother our work in OUR workplace. There is nothing to hide.

Safe flying

Dear PILOST,

1) I understand that it's a priviledge, not a right to visit a cockpit. Please also bear in mind that my "attitude" has almost always allowed me to visit the flight deck with carriers other than MAS.
Sure I've been refused to visit a few times but I was always give a clear reason, for example due to line training, but I think it's a bit suspicious that I've been refused so any times by MAS. Five legs (at least 3 diferent crews) and not one visit to the flight deck ?? Bit strange isn't it ? Qantas (Perth-Sydney) and Ansett made no proplems of me visitng the flight deck and we had (despite my "attitide" problem) a great laugh.

2) I know the difference between TOGA power and climb power ! I'm also aware that when leveling off as part of a SID, you have to reduce power in order to observe the 250 kts speed limit below FL010. (pitch + power = performance, right ?)
But I also know that when the throttles (and noise) go from climb power (quite a bit of noise) suddenly to flight idle (virtual silence....!), combined with a feeling of my stomach traveling to my head, that this is not part of 'normal' procedures and 'passenger comfort'. A SID flown manually or by AP should allow for a smooth transition from climb to level flight, NOT by 'chopping' the power and abruptly pushing the nose forward, unless someone is busting his altitude.

3) I'm not trying to smear 'your' (MAS's) good name. The inflight service was excellent and beyond anything I've seen with European or US airlines. Also beautiful babes in the back !
However, giving my opinion is probably what you think is wrong with my "attitude."

Smile

Bokkeridjer,I do apoligize if you feel offended.I'm just a bit confused with your statements.First you said our F/A's smiles are fake/plastic & then you said we have excellent inflight service.Guess you're smitten by it.

Anyway, if you do decide to fly with us again, try talking with our f/a's again & maybe if we're not busy or no security threat is observed we'll let you visit the flight deck.Oh yes, don't forget the word 'please'.

As for the FRA departure let me quote Newtons law " a body in motion, tends to stay in motion".It is more prominent on the big jets due to the momentum.A/T's on the 744 tend to be a bit violent as to achieve the commanded speed.

Anyway, let me hold out an olive branch to you. You're entitled to your opinions but please don't make generalised statements based on your experience & not the public's.It tends to make us look like unsocialable creatures when the truth is far from it.

Safe Flying,

PILOST

Thumbs up

Many thanks to the two very professional young lads who gave me 2 1/2 hours of enjoyable hospitality.
I now atleast know where most of the old fashioned dials are to be found on those multi coloured screens.
Thanks again.
