I lived in Osaka for 6 years.
Awesome place, awesome people, awesome food!
Cant offer any advice on hotels - unless of course we are talking love hotels
Just to give you some idea about apartments in the northern suburbs of Osaka, two bedroom apartments start from around 75,000 a month, depending on how close you want to be to a railway station(and what line its on).
These are modern apartments, but perhaps small by western standards (total floorspace of 50-60m2).
The bond will cost you anywhere from 20,000 to 60,000 yen and you generally get around half back (based on the contract)
I lived about 30 mins away from Itami (by car, on the expressway) in a place called Neyagawa. A 3 storey house close to the local town centre (10 mins walk) cost me 100,000 yen a month, which included a parking space.
Dunno if you speak/read the lingo but here are some examples with floorplans.
Brand new 15mins bus from Senri-chuou (Quite a nice area I believe) 92,000yen/mth
+10,000 a month if u want a car park
Brand new 2 bedroom apartment 15 minute walk from Setsu, on the airport monorail line 75,000yen/mth
+10,000 a month if u want a car park
Try a "gaijin house" or maybe even a "weely mansion" for a medium term stay - 60,000 and up I think.
Enjoy
