Number of airlines in India

How many regular airlines are there in India? Air India, Jet Airways, Spicejet... I only know a few, would anyone be kind and name them all?

Thanks!

Jet Air has 340-300s also

AI express now with expat Capts & FOs! Inidan aviation is hiring so many xpat pilots, DGCA should just make it an open recruitment ground for all !

Why keep it under warps that there are 100s of xpat pilots that are keeping the airlines in the air.

Very true Hairy !
Why is the Indian govt trying to hide the xpat pilots?

There is shortage of pilots, the govt should be creating jobs for locals first. Yes the xpats are a stop gap measure what about long term.
DGCA

Hairy Chest, are you positively sure there are foreign FOs in Air India Express? My source in India tells me only foreign Capts are given contracts in India. As of the moment, the DGCA rules have not relaxed enough to let foreign FOs in yet. Please correct me if I'm wrong....

Ever heard of 2 capts. The need for pilots is so high right now that the right seat is manned by an xpat capt and they fly 1 way command.

Capts only is just a loop hole DGCA maintains to keep local pilots "happy" & unemployed.
Jet airways operated all their flts in the early days the same way and now when they got the 340s same thing 2 xpat capts.

So far for India, we have –

2. Air India Express,www.airindiaexpress.in INDIA(18XB737-800)
8. Spicejet www.spicejet.com, India B737-800 (20 to become Royal Airways)
9. Kingfisher (www.flykingfisher.com),India A320(20),A319(3)
10. Indus Airways, India 5 leased Embraer RJ-145s
11. Go Airways, India
12. Air One, India
13. Yamuna Airways, INDIA
17. Paramount Airways,www.paramountairways.com India (Coimbatore) EMB170/190?
27. Magic Air, New Delhi, India A320or B737 ( 10)?
30. Visa Airways, India. (DHC Dash 8)
31. Crescent Air Cargo (Cargo Dedicated F50's), India

INDIGO, India (100 A320’s)
East West ?? India

Thanks to Snooze

most of the airplanes are leased,
ie; the 3 737 of spice jet are leased,
only by mid nov they will receive their very 1st owned jet,
the ATR's airdeccan has are leased trhough ATR, still waiting to receive their 1st ATR72-500
and the Airbus a friend told me are rented from qatarairways
in most of the companies, or at least in the one i am ,
they roster 2 capts at the same time, with no training what so ever in the sim for that seat, you just show up for a flight and w out notice you fly w another (most of the times) low time on equip capt in the right seat, keep in mind the expats fly left seat, only the expat-instructors fly the right seat, theres a lot of training going on in preparation for the new arrivals
what is sad to see, is that theres sign for improovment for the airports or their facilities, not even to think of new airports at all to cope w the increase, this is gonna be a funKaos within 3 to 5 years in the apron's all over india with no place to park, or having to wiat 15 minutes to pushback or to takeoff due to arr o dep airplanes
well so far for me its been interesting and fun and relax
bye

Relax- JD

Hyderabad and Bangalore are both going to have new airports by 2008 , work has started in both, both have foreign participation (Malaysian Airports and Unique) and both will have all the facilties you want. Cochin has just had a new apron commissioned with A380 capabilty and both Mumbai and Delhi are going to have their contracts for modernisation finalised very soon.

Yeah I agree - for the next two years things will not be so rosy, but after that things should get better.

Cheerio

Hey JD

For one, I happened to work for sometime in one of those new projects. And we werent exactly pushing paper there ! So was the case with our competitors. And the information which I state is therefore not from one of those ignorant media reports so common in India.

The construction contract for HYD is signed - Land T and China State Construction have got the contract for the Air Side Landside and the Terminal building respectively (as announced in the media also). They dont exactly work like the local flyover construction department of the Indian small town!

And dont forget these are majority private ownerships - cost over run and hurt badly!

Womderful, Wonderful.

The poor gentleman has forgotten that COK has the highest airport charges in the whole of India not to forget that with Air India being the ground handler, the turn around times are the longest as well! Wonderful combination - ideal for a LCC.

Poor fellow - someone should tell him other attractive ways to blow his money!
