I am also wanting to seek some clarifcation on a couple of things prior to my interview:

I am hearing mixed opinions as to what content the Initial A and B interviews actually involves. In my email it stated the following:

Initial A:
  • Multi-Choice Techincal Exam
  • COMPASS Aptitude Test

Is the "math exam" that I hear people talking about actually part of the COMPASS test? What are peoples experiences wit this math test. I have heard some people say it is basic subtractions, others say it is a mixture of things, and then others say you are given graphs/data etc. Any recent AE interviewees able to answer this?

Also, I assume the tech exam will be based around ATPL theory level?

Initial B:
  • HR Interview
  • Personality Test
  • Reasoning Test

For an international pilot heading up to HK for the interview, should I expect a Group Exercise and Simulator Assessment as well?

Thanks you in advance :)

Hello !

What ratings were you working on and you flight hours back then in 2014?

I am currently FAA CPL, CFI, CFII and 260 hours and have no instructional experience yet.

Kim.

kiwi_pilot_12 21st Nov 2015 22:53

Tae9141,

I had a fresh CPL + Instructor Rating (no instructing time at that point).
So essentially:

- 300 TT
- CPL
- Frozen ATPL
- MEIR
- Instructor Rating

:)

ineterview date

Do you have any idea why did they take so long to give out an invitation to HK?

I am not sure if this is common waiting period for every applicants.

Have you already gone through the written test ?

WeelardPassord 22nd Nov 2015 00:08

I am at 2500tt. All single engine. So do not qualify for u the TT as you need 500multi crew. I did my application last year as well. And just recently got the HKDAC. Hopefully hear something for an interview soon.

tae9141 22nd Nov 2015 00:18

We are talking about the Advanced Entry programme.

WeelardPassord 22nd Nov 2015 00:22

Yes. I was told by Cathay I will be qualifying for the AE.

I really am not sure why it takes so long for some people to get notice from CX after a year.

By the way, How did you prepare for your CX interview?

I would appreciate your help and advises.

What to do to get an invitation there? I applied back in 2012 and I keep updating my application continuously. Having around 800TT including Jet time by now..

Thanks!

Hi Kiwi_pilot_12,

Was just wondering how long it took you to hear that you had got into stage 2?

Cheers.

kiwi_pilot_12 1st Dec 2015 22:45

Bose1 - Remember we are talking about Advanced Entry (AE) here. The interview coming up in HK is my first with Cathay, known as the Initial Selection. This is a two day process: First day is called the Initial A, second day is called the Initial B.

After this Initial Selection process you are then notified (at a guess it would be a week or two later) if you are invited back for "Stage 2", which is a sim check and group exercise etc.

So in essence, I haven't been notified of Stage 2 as I have not attended the Initial Selection (aka Stage 1).

Hopefully this has clarified things :)

Hi everyone,

I am now studying Aviation Technology with Pilot Studies at University of Leeds, and I will do my PPL over this summer.

Personally I hold HK ID Card, but planning to get a frozen ATPL(modular) within these three years in uni. Then what I plan is to get to 300 flying hours and try to apply for AE.

Recently I have sent them an email asking what is their requirements, they have replied that they are now expecting min 500 flying hours... I am now 20 years old and just doing year 1 in uni, so I really want to get a job not too long after graduation.

What will be your suggestion? Should I apply cadet after graduation? or should I continue to do my modular ATPL then apply to other airlines, get the hours, before I go for AE or TT?

Thanks!!

kiwi_pilot_12 7th Dec 2015 18:54

Bose1, are you able to private message me - I just have a couple of queries in regards to the interview

Thanks

kiwi_pilot_12 7th Dec 2015 22:33

Chermaine,

Hope you're enjoying your training thus far, it's a rewarding but challenging career and in the grand scheme of things I am still very inexperienced.

What you stated about the 500 hour TT requirement is indeed correct for AE. I when I initially was contacted a couple of months back they said I HAD to get to 500 hours prior to my interview as this is now the requirement.

I assume this is too weed out the guys who just blob through training and "hope" to get a dream job with a great company like Cathay. Pilot numbers exponentially drop off with experience, so getting the first 250 hours after your training (ie to make it to around 500 hours TT) is the most crucial and also possibly the hardest.

I'd simply suggest to persevere and apply to as many jobs as possible :)

Good luck :ok:

Sure no worries what was your email?

250+ hr

On the website, it is still showing 250+HR requirement for AE.

Maybe they have not changed or in the process of making alteration to requirement, but is it a credible source what you guys heard from CX?

Kim.

This year 250 hours minimum have been the official requirement for the Cathay Pacific Advanced Entry program.

chermaine 9th Dec 2015 18:38

Thanks so much for your reply!

I will go ahead to get my license anyways! Perhaps I can apply to other airline which accept low hour pilots then apply to Cathay afterwards.
