"Two minutes later, the Taoyuan control tower informed the captain that they had found debris on the runway and asked the captain to inspect the aircraft."

I do wonder how the Captain was supposed to check his airplane while in flight?

Some aircraft can display tyre pressures/brake temperatures etc on screens or gauges inside the aircraft.

It was good ATC procedure to mention to the captain what had been found on the runway.

The controllers were telling inbound aircraft the airport was closed due to "FOD on the runway" - turned out to be a fairly large piece!
