HH-52 in Antarctica

I can't find the original thread, but Lu mentioned a US Coastguard HH-52 that was abandoned in the Antarctic when they couldn't fly it back off the mountain!

Anyway, was looking for something else and stumbled on this picture of it! Still sitting there, still in pretty good shape due to the low humidity?

Thumbs up Wrong aircraft-Wrong continent

The aircraft that I mentioned as having landed on the upslope of a snowcovered mountain was a USAF PBY and the mountain was in Alaska.

An easy misteak to meak. Why are these two words pronounced differently?

Must have been a case of mistaken identity. I recall reading about this recently but couldn't find the thread on search. This explains why!

Back in the early seventies a Hughes 500 was rolled off the top of the hill and abandoned right at the end of the Amery ice shelf. One of the trips I went to the ice on (nineties) we almost got to the crash site but had to turn back due weather. Just wondering if anyone has any photoes of that old Jayrow machine?
