HGU-56 Helmet
Anyone have experience wearing an HGU-56 in a tight cockpit like a 407, 429 or Astar? What kind of movement restriction can someone anticipate who’s over 6’ in height. If you also utilize NVG’s what kind of movement limitations can be expected with them both flipped up and flipped down?
I get the impression from looking at the general size of the HGU-56 that it might not be the best choice in a cramped cockpit. Both the UH-60 and CH-47 offer substantial headroom both vertical and horizontal that isn't found on most civilian airframes.

I know of at least one incident with two pilots wearing the helmets in a Bk117 (throttles on overhead panel), where one pilot accidentally knocked one throttle back to ground idle with his helmet....
I personally prefer the SPH over the HGU-it feels less "bulky" to me....
If the helmet is just to protect your head from bumping it on the frame, or to carry Nvg, have a look at the Protec Alpha Half shell...... Looks like a bicycle helmet, but very lightweight and not bulky at all...
