Headset/cockpit lighting accessories
Last year at the 2007 heli expo, there was a vendor that had some really great looking products for cockpit lighting.
Unfortunatly, they had run out of cards by the time I got to them & have lost the web address I wrote on a scrap piece of paper.
I wonder if anyone that attended can remember or knows them?
I have looked at the HELIEXPO 2007 web site and started looking at vendors but that is going to take a few hundred hours to work through as the obvious name descriptions are not panning out.
I am looking for something extra that I can either clip on to my head set or some where handy inside the cock pit.
They had some really neat stuff like the NVG color ( thats what its called honest ) that wont wash out any colors including red or green.
They had lots of products that had multi colors like NVG color, white/blue, red & green.
I am doing a bit more night flying now and the finger light that I use is a great little accessory, just it no longer works for the aircraft I am now flying.
I also use the headlamp but find it gets very uncomfortable after a short while.
Different AC have different lights that work to varying degrees of success & I want to carry something that will work great all the time.
I am reading different reports showing that a softer white/blue light is better than red or green and the NVG color works best of all.
Any comments here or suggestions are welcomed as always.
Not looking to blow the budget but it will be something that will last a career and really is a handy tool not just a neat gadget.
I use a DC H10-36 head set & a kneeboard as standard personal flight equipment.
I would like the light to be able to light the kneeboard up & some instruments when the instrument lights & or the cockpit lights invariably dont work.
Maybe a bi directional flex light that can clip on anywhere would work or a remotely switched light would be good too if they exist?

Found it !
After an exhausting search ( really long story ) I found the supplier.
All of their products seem very interesting & I think I will be going with the MK3, the price is pretty good too I think.

I've used lots of lights, and what I've settled on, finally, is a cheap LED headlight, with red and white LEDs. It fits around my head with an elastic band, and works well for preflight, startup, and infight use. Wherever I turn my head, I have light. The expensive models that attach to the headset, mike, or wherever are too limited. The headlight works for everything, in and out of the cockpit, and away from the aircraft. YMMV.

I've a little LED-Keyfinder in blue on the pocketzipper of my overal.
All the time with me, LED-blue doesn't interfere with the NVG.
Use that one for start up or checking switches/fuses.
Have another LED-Light from Zweibrüder, not quite sure, if still build, has 4 colors, red, blue, green and white (three LED white).
White is really bright enough for preflight / refueling and battery lasts for ever.
In my pencilpocket I've also a little Xenon-Light from Underwater Kinetics
Very very bright, not for use in the cockpit, but very useful for preflight in sunny conditions, to look in the shaded areas of the engine/gearbox and so

the little finger light is great for all that stuff too, its blue led as well and is great for just about anything, I just cant get my finger all the way around the cyclic to see my chart,knee board and I cant get it to hit light up the instrument panel like I could on the 22.
I will always keep that on the knee board , just in case & wear it at night just in case.
Would love some input from someone that is using a lip light.

Been through 3 or 4 different Mic Lights and finally got the one Helofan is talking about... best one yet for sure, but still a mic light! Unless you can put what you want to look at right on your face, it doesn't do much for lighting things up, IE a kneeboard or instrument panel/switch, especially if you're staring into NVGs (which is like staring at two flashlights). Finger lights work well, but I ended up settling on a light around my neck. Just pick it up and point it where you want it, no hassles. I use the Phantom Hawk:

...and like it a lot. I also ran with that one attached to my kneeboard for a while, also worked well with a finger light. Seen a lot of the big ones running around here too. Some guys at work have gotten a little rubberized square light that runs off a 9V battery, don't know who makes it but it has a push button for medium, high, and flash... but always stays on in the low intensity mode, perfect for identifying switches and reading maps. Very cool light, wish I knew who made em!

I use the s-lite ( green and white LED ) mounted on the mikeboom and the batterypack velcroed to my Gentex-Helmet.
Easy to use and sufficient lighting for all situations while flying.
