If I'm not mistaken, you need a TRTO, fancy or otherwise.

Thumbs up

live in edinburgh but will travel to do the flying.

thanks PACO I wasn't clear in what I said, I appreciate I need a TRTO but having spent too many years and almost 10k hours in the airline and Heli business I know I don't need one that charges you the earth because it has a pretty hangar and nice uniforms if you know what i mean - that was what i meant to say, sorry if it was unclear.

there are very deft instructors / TREs out there with access to TRTO and machines who might be able to help me.

all PMs answered. many thanks for the suggestions so far.

You might check with some folks, but I have seen a lot of youngsters from Europe lately getting their FAA ratings on a Visa and then using the remaining time on their Visa to work in the states. www.papillon.com has hired a few and they ended up with some money and 2-300 hours on AS-350s before they had to go back to Europe.
I dont know the particulars but its worth looking at....Im sure someone who is smarter than I am will remind me of that and give us all the correct answers here.
