Officials confirmed the death of two of the four occupants aboard a Bell 206, L Series helicopter, which crashed six miles south of Patterson early this morning.
Gerry Golden, general manager and director of operations for Rotocraft Leasing, said the helicopter was carrying one pilot and three occupants and was headed for an offshore location. The crash occurred about 7:30 a.m. in a remote, marshy area south of Patterson.
“He had just taken off about five minutes before from a Patterson airport,” he said.
One occupant was uninjured, another suffered a leg injury and two others died as a result of the crash, he said. The victims’ names are being withheld pending notification of their families, Golden said.
Golden would not release information about which company the passengers worked for.
The crash set off a fire that burned about 50 acres of marsh grass in the area, Golden said.

NTSB Investigating Patterson Helicopter Crash UPDATE
National Transportation Safety Board investigators are in Acadiana this week.
They're examining the wreckage of a Rotorcraft Technology helicopter that went down Tuesday morning near Patterson.
NTSB investigators say this is not an easy crash site to analyze. Fire consumed dozens of acres after the helicopter crashed in a remote area off Cotton Road.
The helicopter took off around 7:30 Tuesday morning from the Perry Flying Center in Patterson. It crashed just minutes after take off, killing the pilot and one of three passengers. NTSB officials say the goal now is to figure out what went wrong.
Timothy LeBaron says the fire caused by the wreck has advantages and disadvantages. He says it cleared out much of the brush from the site, but he says it's also making parts of the investigation more difficult.
LeBaron says the helicopter is not equipped with a black box, a device that collects aircraft information during flights. He says investigators are optimistic the survivors can help his team piece together what happened.
The St. Mary Parish Coroner's Office is now releasing the names of the victims killed in the accident.
The passenger was 45-year-old Darrel Smith of Carencro. The pilot was 47-year-old Jose Parra of Pembroke Pines, Florida.
All three passengers were employed by Island Operating of Scott.
