Telegraph Magazine - 4 Feb 06

I cracked a rib laughing at the Midnight Patrol article!

"...conquistadors of the London night."

"...helmet-sporting redeemers of the night's blackness."

Tears are in my eyes...

Yesterday's telegraph magazine

Article written about the Met ASU appears on page 42.

Here are another couple of quotes -

"The avian police, like black-cab drivers, rely on the Knowledge."

"... and spot canoodling office workers from eight miles away."

The whole article is priceless.

A full version can be found at

www.nighthaunts.org.uk

Go to HTML version (Flash was too arty!) and click on Avian Police.

It's art OK?

Cheers

Art is in the eye of the beholder - else why would there be pictures of dogs playing poker on a background of black velour?

I enjoyed the read, if for nothing else that the writer was attempting to capture bits of what many of us feel from time to time...

I wonder what he was smoking when he wrote that article,

They're edge chasers, hurtling towards those spaces where ground officers fear

Yes its arty OK... but as I look out of my 'office' window to see the same bit of sky day in and night out I can say pretty categorically that the writer was definitely on something pretty strong ....!

Oh, and the history is wrong too... the AA guns came in 1939 before they captured and incarcerated the German prisoners [as they might!]... no Italians in that camp.... 1944-48. The site has lots of interesting history but although it starts in that direction it soon stops and gets it wrong anyway!

Generally....

its a shame that the pictures are not on the website and only in the magazine as a couple of them are not bad,

Without doubt a priceless piece....... theres nothing like keeping the unsavoury types on their feet, now that they think they can be seen from 8 miles!

And bearing in mind that it is an 'arty' item and suffering from inaccuracies of fact it is odd that the Met appears to have taken the author for a flight over London.
Nthing is impossible of course but the Police AOC restrictions on passenger to be carried in police aircraft and the weight/performance implications of the 355 out of Lippitts just make it 'surprising' .......

.... and my hard copy of the magazine just arrived unexpectedly this evening.... seems I have got a name in the town...

Yes those pictures are pretty good and arty!
