Sorry its an old thread and I usually lurk in the Mil pilots forum, but here is another of my fine friends in SA. (This Bo105 was written off in May 1997 whilst chasing a stolen BMW on the N3 highway)

SAP Airwing is in sad shape. Pilots are jumping ship real fast. Lots of good follks and many good times at the 'Rotor Arms"
Second picture looks like Sandton City in the backround.

Did you ever know Rod McLay, he was at Rand Airport when I was there. Actually went to visit Foggy (John Fogden) a kiwi who was chief pilot for NAC at Rand Airport and ended up going flying with the BO-105s. Had a great time there.

The Photos are really beautiful and bring back some wonderful memories. Im headed back to SA and would be more than willing to sponsor a good Night at the Rotor Arms. I have been told though it should be Windhoek and not Castles.
Should be there mid Sept. and hope we can round up a lot of the Fellas... Names upon request.
Goose are you listening, your the last one..

Speaking of Aircraft. Im going to get a picture of a BK-117 that started out with the Lesotho Air Force. Due to a lot of factors, shall we call it ignorance and greed its now flying EMS with a company in Las Vegas Nevada.
Give me a day or two and I will post it..

Pac Rotors: When last known, that "nutter" Rod Mclay was flying for South African Express. I wonder if he is still paying "flying" visits to that house on the ridge? Think she is now married anyway!!

B Sousa,
how I would adore to be there, even without Castles! I have a contact for you who is ex SAPS Airwing 'just' but now chief pilot at STAR. I am sure you chaps could get along well. E-mail me direct if you want more details.
Go well my friend

Guys,

The other person I was also wondering where he is was Brian Lemkuhl, he was the OIC of the Rand /Germiston unit of the SAPS Air Wing when I visited.

Widgeon,
strange we mention RCP, just got off the telephone to one of my Pilot mates in JNB, he tells me that RCP is leaving tomorrow and is going to Pietersburg (spelling).

Thanks Andy, the pics look really good. Thats me flying the second police helicopter, and the third one (ECHO 1 - Flight For Life Service)as well. For those interested check out www.star.org.za. Rod is still flying for SA Express and still flies for the Johannesburg Airwing as a reservist pilot. Brian has left South Africa and now lives in Canada. Great site - regards Ivor
