We have had a complaint from a customer concerning the operation of their SX5 searchlight . Specifically the slew rate of the light and the size of the illuminated area. I would like to know what altitiude most Police departments fly at when they are using a searchlight . According to spec the sx5 gives a 150 ft diameter lit area at 500 metres .

The slew rate is just about the same on both models. Too slow when ya need it in a different position.
If a FLIR is coupled with the light, the light will not keep up.
As far as the light given, the SX-5 is okay to a max altitude of about 300 feet in a dark area. In the city, it just does not put enough light out. On the other hand, the SX-16 is great. Works really well in the 300-500 foot range.
We have a ship that has the SX-5 on it. The ship is generally only used during the day, and at night we consider the light as a stop gap until another ship comes that has the SX-16.
