Question R44 Time In Us

Hi!
According to the SFAR you need 50 TOT and 25 off these in R44 to instruct in it. Now, the thing is that 25 hours of R44 is a heck of a lot of money. This must make R44 time very valuable when applying for jobs! Anyone now a good way of building 44 time without going bankrupt? There must bee a loot of schools lacking this experience in the US. Anybody got some ideas?
Thanks!

R44 Time

Additionally ,if the Aircraft is insured by Pathfinder there will be an 'additional endorsement' requiring 50 hours PIC in addition to meeting the 25 hour SFAR requirement for a CFI to teach in one.
44 time is indeed at a premium and is of value when instructors apply to schools - like ours as we have 2 44's.

Rides, photo flights, tours, ferry flights - that's how I got my R44 time. The hardest is the first 10 hours for the PIC endorsement - all ferry and MX checkflights (building a pilot 0.2 hours at a time).

Is this a question of money or a question of experience? Or better, what makes the bigger headaches? Having the endorsement or being competent? In my sight you need more than 100h to understand a R-44.
But it's the old question of very low time FI's, often discussed here.

Red face competence versus $$$$$$$$$$

Question of competence? Yes. but,

Yes i am a low timer, and yes the question is often money! People with a lot of flight time often seem to forget what that training actually cost. You say at least 100 hours in R44 witch i would agree with. Now lets see, 100hours at 400$\h = 40k$! If i win the lottery i guess i would have the chance to become a competent pilot! Reality bites, i am not rich....

I'm not interested to warm up a new low time/competence FI discussion.

I understand your problem skippo.
If i win the lottery i guess i would have the chance to become a competent pilot!
But i feel remembered me on a lot of pilot-management discussions.
"If we win the lottery we guess we would have the chance to improve the safety on flights or to give the pilots better working conditions!"

We have a lot of safety threads here on PPrune. I couldn't understand to discuss about poor operation standards on one side in the companies and on the other side pilots moaning about the lowest levels of flight competence before instructing other pilots.
I bet a lot of pilots wailing about minimum flight instructions in new types or new kind of operations and feeling unsafe because the operator is interested in low costs.

Anyone know about a cheap place in Orlando/Florida area you can get R44 time? And how much does it usually cost?
Someone told me you can get cheap R44 time at the Robinson factory, can you actually get R44 time there if you´re not at the safety course?

Florida CPL?

Hi, can anyone provide any help or advice for me? I intend to move from the Ireland to Florida later this year in the hope of obtaining my CPL(H).
I'm at the final stages of my PPL.
Heli Adventures lookings like a good set up. . . I'd appreciate comments from any one with any experience of them.
P.S Its the J.A.A CPL i'm looking at.

Thanks!

helo school

Hi Asmus,

I started flying at Nassau Helicopters which is located at the Princeton Airport. I checked on a map, it looks to be about an hour drive from where your friend lives. They have 3 R22's and a R44, the only problem I had was its a part 61 school, so no set curriculum. It makes it difficult to study when they dont give you an outline of subjects to cover.

Rather than ask for comments - how about showing that youve done your homework and ask specific questions.

Maybe then people will be inclined and able to fill you in with specifics

If you want a JAA CPL(H), you only have one choice. Helicopter Adventures Inc. They are the only JAA approved helicopter academy in the US (I even think the whole world).

I would personally have no hesitation in recommending HAI.

Prior to visiting HAI must say I had some reservations about the FAA system. I had flown with a few pilots that had trained in America and I thought their flying style was very different to the way I had been taught in the U.K. I had the pleasure of visiting HAI last year and was very impressed with the whole setup there. I listened to many briefings and debriefings I thought they were very professional in both delivery and content. They have a very good school with excellent facilities certainly the best of any helicopter school I have visited.

Getting the visas etc can be a little tricky if you don’t have the help of someone that has done it before but HAI are also very helpful in this area. They will forward you links to all the forms and explain exactly what to do.

I have no connection with HAI apart from having visited them, if you have any specific questions please feel free to pm me or ask on here.

I thought Nassau helos were a right miserable bunch - I felt like I was troubling them by being there. Hear good things about Helicopter services though - or if you want to drive a little, try Dutch Country Helos in PA - they're legends !!

HAI

Hillerbee

As 3D says, HAI is an impressive operation. It's commitment to high graduate standards is unquestioned. Definately worth visiting and allowing yourself time to get a well-founded impression of the school.

pm me for some tips on getting the best out of your experience there.
