Gatwick Landing Sites

Hi Does anyone know any landing sites close to Gatwick Airport or does one have to land at Gatwick.
Boss is catching a long haul flight from Gatwick but I would prefer to avoid it if I can

thanks

Give Interflight a ring and ask about Peter Vallance. It might not be available, but worth a try. Otherwise Redhill.

Why avoid LGW? We're quite friendly!!!!

Agree P Vallance is usually helpful or else check some of the local 'posher' hotels in the area as some of them have facilities - one is in Copthorne but can't think of its name right now.

My guess why avoiding LGW is ££££ although Redhill is (?)£18.00 for singles.

The official helipad at EGKK is no more. If you want to land you will need a runway slot, day or night = expensive. I don't know if they allow skidded aircraft because they require a prolonged taxi to parking. I was offered the chance of landing / parking at the museum on the northwest side of the airfield a few months back but was warned it is very soft grass. With our 5 ton wheeled helicopter, we declined that offer.

We carried out a risk assessment on the old 'H' position and on all possible other locations and none of them meet the safety standards, so reluctantly we had to go for the runway option. It hasn't added to the cost of using LGW but it does mean that sometimes you can't get a slot (or realistically the 2 slots that a taxi operation needs) at the times convenient for your plan.

We try very hard to work with the Handling Agent to providde a stand nearest to the runway for these ops (usually the 140s). We certainly do welcome skidded a/c as well as those with wheels - there's no problem hover-taxying to stand.

Cheers,
TOO

How much does it cost to land a helicopter at Gatwick these days?

I appreciate it probably varies by weight but some examples would be interesting.

Was this for the hotel helipads near LGW? And if so why havn't they been removed from helipad lists?

Tony

'TheOddOne' was referring to alternative locations on the airport - not private helipads nearby.
