Its 0340am in the morning here in Ontario, Canada.
Just got woken by the loudest crack of lightning I have ever heard. Sirens from the fire depts are on the move. A distinct case of happy to be on the ground wishing to be flying rather than the reverse.
Hope all our US friends in Michigan are avoiding the red and purple patches. No doubt twisters around and about.

I hope these links work. They are the Traverse City radar loop and the Exeter Radar in Canada.

I'm probably just overcautious, but if there's an electrical storm I turn off my computer.

Call me a little sarcastic, but does lightning make a crack? Thought thunder made the noise in a storm.

correct me if i'm wrong.

Lightning is a giant spark of electricity. Inside a thunder head, air rushes up and down. Bits of ice and water bump into each other. That makes electricity build up in different parts of the cloud. When there's too much of it, we see a FLASH of lightning.

Thunder is the noise that lightning makes. A flash of lightning heats the air around it. Then the air moves outward quickly, making the sound of thunder. We see lightning the instant it lights up the sky. But the sound of thunder moves more slowly through the air. So it always comes after we see the lightning.

Hey Steve76,
Hows it hanging up there. Brace yourself tonight for another light show. The TS activity has been pumping most nights down here in NY.
Later, DW
