KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, Fla. -- Clay County authorities report that a civilian Robinson R22 helicopter had a hard landing early Friday at the Keystone Heights Airport.
An instructor and a student pilot were practicing maneuvers just after 9 a.m. when the helicopter landing gear broke during a landing, and the chopper rolled onto its side.
The two suffered only minor injuries, but the aircraft sustained substantial damage.
The helicopter reportedly belonged to Wing And Rotor, a company based out of Flagler County. The company does not have facilities at the Keystone Airport, but utilizes that airfield for lessons.
The names of the occupants were not released, but the instructor is reported to be 28-year-old man from Britain and the student was reported to be a 26-year-old Starke resident.
Rescue and law enforcement personnel from Clay and Bradford counties responded to the incident. They have turned the investigation over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
