Crash in Switzerland

Helicopter crashes into Swiss mountain; 1 killed, 3 injured
Agence France-Presse

Diablerets, Switzerland, December 22

A helicopter crashed into an icy mountain in western Switzerland on Monday, killing one person on board and injuring three others, including the pilot, police said.

The cause of the crash, at the top of the Scex Rouge peak near the Swiss ski resort Les Diablerets, was not yet clear and police in the canton (region) Vaud said an inquiry had been launched.

The helicopter took off at 0800 GMT to take five technicians to ski stations in the area to deal with some mechanical problems, according to the police.

But 15 minutes after safely leaving two technicians at a stopover, the helicopter crashed, killing one and leaving the others with light injuries and in a state of shock.

"At the time of the incident the atmospheric conditions and visibility were changeable," the local police said in a statement.
