Five survive emergency landing

Nov 30, 2003

A helicopter pilot and his four passengers have survived a crash landing at Fox Glacier on the South Island's west coast.

The experienced pilot reported problems with the engine on Saturday morning before setting down.

A 25-year-old man was flown to hospital in Greymouth with suspected spinal injuries.

The other four onboard escaped relatively unscathed.

It is understood the Hughes 500 landed heavily on its side in a river bed near the glacier.

A transport accident team will investigate.
