World Rally C'ship GB

Just been watching the highlights of the Rally on Ch4 (bit weird about Burns...) and was wondering who does the flying for the camera shots and, when needed (as it was for Sainz today) as casevac.

I presume that the contract goes to an operator local to that specific round of the Championship. Does anyone know who gets the UK contract?

Just wondering (and dreaming...)

Al Gwilt from MW Helicopters is flying the twin squirrel G-ORMA with a wescam for the aerial shots of the rally.

Sainz was picked up by his team's EC120 after crashing his car and returned to the service area in Swansea.

Thanks everyone.

Anyone know how many of the teams bring their own aircraft with them? Prodrive and Citroen obviously do...

In countries like Aussie and NZ they obviously use the local operators.

Last two years has been interesting, Colin McCrae has crashed out in early stages of the Rally of NZ and both times I arranged a helo for him to follow the rest of the rally. First time he used an AS350-B2 and then last rally got him an EC130 to fly around. In Kiwiland nearly every helicopter in the North Island, and some in the south were used on the rally, either by crews, officials or just groups of people wanting to watch the races.

The total number of helos following rally this time was 68 helicopters.

When the WRC went to Nairobbery we flew eight helicopters from Jo'Burg to Kenya because they didnt have enough of them incountry. The trip was with an EC130, AS350B3, a BA and five EC120s. Had an awesome trip and then they came home via the coast.

There are around 25 helicopters flying the rally. Lot's of Squirrell's, EC120's, Jet Rangers and four R44's plus a beautiful EC135.
