JAA CPL (Restricted)

Hello Peeps,

Long time listener, first time caller.

Two quick questions for some of the older and wiser heads, as JAR FCL is a tad difficult to put yer hands on here in tent city.

The CAA were at one time issuing a JAR CPL restricted to UK aircraft. If this is still the case, does anyone know if there is a time restriction between date of the JAR CPL skills test pass, and the date that the licence has to be applied for, and second, notwithstanding the 5 hours of night flying required, if this was done, say, five years back, not on the JAR CPL course, would it still count, or would the CAA ( nice sympathetic wonderful chaps and chapesses ) be prepared to issue a licence restricted to day flying only?

Any ideas gratefully recieved and most appreciated.

All the best,

MB

Thumbs down JAR CPL (R)

Hi MB!

Having just gotten the the blue book (Frozen JAR ATPL) recently, I hope that I can be of some help.

I'm an Aussie with the right of abode for the UK, and when I finished my CPL/ IR flying last year at PAT I submitted my application to the CAA and was off home back to Melbourne. Although I had completed the approved courses, I had zero night flying time when I submitted my application. Thus a month after arriving home, I got the letter from the CAA stating that the application was rejected and would be approved upon completion of the night flying requirements.

Now due to some financial commitments it was actuually 11 months between passing the CPL skills test (in a BE76 as part of my 1179) and when I had completed the night hours requirement for the license issue.

So to answer your questions:
1. You have to finish the night requirement and get your license issued within the 12 month validity of the skills test. Remember that you will need to allow for the time it takes for the CAA to actually issue your license after receiving your application. This can be realistically 10 days to 6 weeks.

2. Remember that your license application will only be approved subject to your having a valid Class 1 Medical- if it has lapsed make sure you get this re- done before putting your application in. Remember that you will lose possibly precious time if the application has to be sent back to you because of rejection.

3. All training done towards a JAR professional license MUST be done on an approved course at an approved school. In this case it is 25 hours as a minimum for the CPL (R). If your training was done years back, my impression is that it may not be approved.
If I were you, I'd ring the FCL department. Although they come in for a sledging sometimes, I've always found them very helpful.

I hope this answers your questions, good luck with it!

Cheers, Gearup.
