I have booked tickets on one of the "rivals" due to price, availablility etc. Will I still get help from BA with travel expences??
Also. Is it true that only 1000 people get past the application form per year??

Doubt it'll make a difference - the accounts people are separate from the selection people, and the tests are all objective. Might make a difference in an interview, though I doubt it'd be the first question they'd ask.
Where it might be useful to travel with BA would be if you could get a jump seat and pick the crew's brains on the way for tit-bits to drop into the conversation at the interview you just know you're going for. I did this on Aer Lingus - they had a trick question in the interview which the captain told me about on the way over to Dublin. My biggets problem was tryingto make it look as difficult as it should have been. I didn't get the job so maybe my acting skills aren't what I imagine them to be!
Yes, it's nigh on impossible to get sponsorship when you look at the odds, but people buy lottery tickets against even longer odds. And look at it this way - someone's going to get the places, and it might as well be you.
All the very best - I look forward to being flown by you in a couple or three years.

correct me if I am worng everyone but I believe;
- approx 20,000-30,000 applications are sent out each year
-approx 1,000 get invited to aptitudes
-approx 100-120 people get accepted for sponsorship
I guess that a few get turned away from the medicals also!
The odds aren't good but well worth the effort! I am currently waiting to do my aptitudes on the 30th August! GOOD LUCK with yours!
