Welshpool - any news?
Does anyone know if there is any news regarding the FTO at Welshpool? The last I heard they were due to lose their airfield last April.
Is there any possibility of a new field yet?

Rumour has it that Pool Aviation are moving to Tatenhill, but I don't know that for certain.
If you want to fly in, Welshpool is open, I think it's PPR, it has Avgas, coffee and snacks, a newly decorated building with the floor raised above flood level (it used to flood regularly), and a warm welcome. They have an aircraft for hire, but when I last heard had no plans for a flying school as they're extending the runway. Their new phone number is 01938.555560.

Pool Aviation are now located at Tatenhill.
I think they are catering exclusivley for Pilot Assist at the moment but I could be wrong.
How Long they are going to be there I don't know. There was a rumor that they they are looking to set up another FTO for public training elsewhere.
I'm afraid I don't have any contact info for you either.

Sqaure root of very little happening their all this holiday. Terrible shame. There would have been aircraft buzzing all over the sky this time last year there. ![Frown](https://www.pprune.org/images/smilies/sowee.gif)
Here's hoping for the future. Come on Bob - get that runway extended... preferably to something that can handle a B737-300 at 55 tonnes and I'll have a word...

Gimme 1800 metres and I'll see you there in a 757 at 90 tonnes ![Smilie](https://www.pprune.org/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Lots of people in jobs now who flew from there... great place, good food, good company, overpriced tea and too many dead flies in the control tower. I'll never forget my flight in the Turbo Commander which proved to me I was doing the right thing.
Wonder how many people learned the art of real dead-reckoning nav out there. One mountain looks just like any other and you were never blase IFR.
Maybe we have a soft spot for it, 'cos we flew there. Cheap and cheerful, good instructors, great B&B, and legging it down the road 'cos we beat a couple of pool sharks for 20 quid and their mates didn't like it... priceless !
I have had the whole Welshpool 'experience'. Didn't do me any harm. Gibber. Hope it's back on line soon.

G-RICH, that could explain why there was no sign of them at Tatenhill when I was there last Saturday. However, I didn't notice any PA38s there either, whereas a few weeks before, the little room you mentioned was full of (ex) Welshpool instructors and there were PA38s all over the place.
I'm flying into Tatenhill for the fly-in tomorrow so I'll see whats there. Is anyone else from PPRUNE flying in tomorrow for the fly-in?
