Needed some advice on modular studies
Okay, so I was previously on an integrated JAR ATPL course in Australia....and Ive switched to Modular. However, I had no ICAO PPL beforehand so I'm on my way to getting that.
In the duration of my integrated studies, I managed to get 3 out of 14 ATPL exams done. Now, after I get my PPL I'm going to finish off my ATPL exams in Australia, and then plan on heading back to the UK to finish all my CPL/IR + MCC stuff.
Question is, would I be able to find a training provider in the UK that offers me a CPL/IR along with the MCC so that ultimately I do get a frozen ATPL?
I'm being very careful about this now, because I've made some pretty dumb whimsical decisions in the past which have cost me a lot of money. So now I'm trying to explain my situation to training providers around the UK so that they know exactly where I'll stand when I get back to the UK to finish the remainder of my training.
I did consider going to Florida, but I'm just fed up of being an international student now and would rather just sort everything out in the UK. That and I don't want to spend so much on accomodation and airfares to and from.

A frozen ATPL doesn't really exist.
It's not a legal definition of anything, it's a phrase that has been made up to try and help describe what you have before an ATPL.
To get a full ATPL you need to pass all 14 ATPL exams, gain a CPL and an IR. an MCC is not a requirement, but most employers require it. You then need 1500 hours, 500 of which must be multi crew. You then send off the paperwork and get an ATPL.
Until then, all you have is a CPL/ME/IR with ATPL groundschool. This is different from just a CPL/ME/IR, because the ATPL groundschool is different. This has been termed FATPL, but has no real legal status, and you will find no mention of it in any legal documentation. Check LASORS.

Cheers, that clears things up a lot!
Time to contact those FTOs and get this sorted out. I have a few months before I get my ATPL exams done but I wanted to get all the info well in advance so I don't get myself in a mess again.
One more question:
I have my first three exams from June of 2008, so basically I have until November/December to finish all my ATPL exams. That's heaps of time, I'll get that done fine, but will I have any time restrictions on the flying aspect of it? Meaning, do I have to get the CPL/ME/IR done in any specific time period?
