CAA observed ATPL skill check

Hello all,
I'm looking for a multi pilot type ratimg in the UK. I need it for the convertion of my FAA ATP. I did already the theoretical exams. My plan was to do a Citation 2 rating with Flight Safety in Paris, because I have flown the Citation seven years ago for about 1000h. But unfortunately the CAA can't offer me a inspector for observing the check flight in Paris. They want me to do the check in the UK. But there is no Citation 2 TRTO. Flight Safety in the UK only offers the Citation Bravo rating, is much expensiver and next available date is February next year :-((
Now I'm thinking about doing any other multi pilot rating in the UK, that is affordable!! Is there someone out there who has experience with CAA observed flight checks? Any information about UK TRTO for a easy to fly multi pilot turbien or jet airplane? The last couple of years I have ony flown light piston aircrafts, any information of great welcom, thanks to all of you, jeyjey

I recently conducted a skill test for an Ozzie who was looking to get a UK ATPL and a 320 rating. The CAA wants to see such tests but a JAR licence-holder (Dutch or German, for example) does not need to be tested in front of the CAA.

Here's another option.

Rather then do the ATPL skill test with a CAA observer, do the CPL and IR single pilot route first. Do the various CPL and IR conversion courses and then the skill tests in a twin piston-the IR test at very least will be with a CAA examiner, probably the CPL test too depending on where you do it. Then you do the Citation 2 test in Paris and it NOW doesn't even have to be observed. Once you pass that test, complete the ATPL applicaiton and submit it along with all the original CPL/IR conversion paperwork and the Citation 2 paperwork, and you'll get the ATPL with the Citation 2.

Bit long winded, but an option.

PM me if you want more information.

And if you do the CPL & IR and do a C550 61.58 stateside (Much cheaper) that will enable you to do just a LPC in a C550 in the UK (For a TRTO try EAS at Gloucester Pete Turner), the LPC acts as a ATPL Skill test.

If you have 500 hours on a type and an ICAO License the above is the process. It must however be a PIC type and not 61.55.

I've done it it works!

ATP convertion

Thank you all !!!
G-Spot: Do I need to convert the Multi Engine part too? Or is CPL+IR sufficent? I have flown the Citation 7 years ago, could this be a problem for the athorities? And if I do lets say the Citation Rating in the states on my FAA ATP, is there any need for doing the CPL+IR at all? I have about 1000h on the Citation. Thanks again for helping, Jens

sounds like your in the same situation as me, sort of. Im flying GV on US licence in the uk. Ive done all the writtens and they run out May next year so i now need to start thinking about it.

I dont have to do an approved course as i have more than 1500 hrs on jets. I could do it at flightSafety with a CAA guy in Feb to observe. which would be the quick fix solution, but company wont pay for the test portion, as they dont need a JAA ticket. my other option is to do the CPL multi IR at maybe Cranfield or Coventry on the Diamond Star. Not sure on what hours i need to do etc. Cost i think would end up being about the same. could be a bit of fun to fly a small piston again hmm??

Curious to see what route you go

Can anyone answer in what order it needs to be done?
do i have to do the SE CPL first, then the Multi then the IR ME or can i just train on doing the Multi IR then take the test and end up with a CPL ME IR
anyone got any input please?
Any other places have the Diamond star outside Cabair at Cranfield and Atlantic at Coventry, seems the best aircraft for me to do it on

Hi Dularate

as far as I know you have to do the CPL first (thats for sure), than add IR and ME on the license. Maybe you can do the CPL on a Multi Engine airplane and make an ME CPL, and than add IR, thats the way I did in Germany, but its 15 years ago, I'm not sure if its possible under the JARs.
