Question Flying in Amsterdam/Holland

I'm moving to Amsterdam within the next month or so and wanted to know if anyone has any experience renting and flying over there.

Recommendations for a club suitable for an 85 hour UK JAR PPL use to PA-28s would be great.

I've had a look at a few club's websites but they tend to be in Dutch for some reason...

Cheers in advance and safe flying.

At the risk of telling you something you already know, most GA flying in that part of the Netherlands is out of Lelystad (EHLE). It is a big friendly field with a large number of both clubs and private owners. There is also a superb Pilots' Shop, a restaurant and a Museum. It would certainly be worth getting out there and having a look round.

I flew from Teuge (tur-her) last year with Air Center Teuge (http://www.vliegschoolact.nl/) in a Piper Archer and it was great fun. Funnily enough, everything was very flat
Anyway, there are some piccies here:

They were very friendly and I went up with an instructor but didn't do a full check-out. As I recall, their check-out consisted of some take-offs and landings, steep turns and probably stalls.
A friend of mine who used to live in Amsterdam, ended up finding a flying club in Rotterdam to fly with.

BAL and 2Ds,

Thanks for the info. I'll have a look into those clubs.

Yep, not many mountain waves to worry about in Flatland

I am a member of the Rotterdam Flying Club. They have a mainly Warrior based fleet with a couple of Robins as well. Prices aren't too bad compared to the UK and there a few interesting trips you can do from EHRD. Drop me an e-mail if you want to know more or have a beer sometime.

I know it is in Dutch but it might be useful...VCR website

WxJx was at EHLE this week. Beautifully kept airfield, ultra-modern facilities (loved the automated Wx, and flightplan terminals), friendly professional staff.

Sad to say, (and I don't know whether Lelystad is representative of the Dutch GA scene as a whole), but it makes UK GA facilities look completely amateurish and mediaeval

Having once had the pleasure of a few years living in Amsterdam, most things are like that....

I lived in Amsterdam many years back in early 1980s. I flew from Lelystad (in a Fuji) and it beat the pants of the UK for facilities back then.

There was a grass airfield at Hilversum I seem to recall, but dont know if they hire out aircraft......
