Light aircraft down off Roses, Catalunia

According to an article in El Punt today - said article being long on words and short on detail - a light aircraft (unspecified) crashed into the sea about 70 metres off Roses beach yesterday afternoon while undertaking a photoshoot.

The pilot sustained light injuries but the photographer is in a critical state.

The cause of the accident was difficult to understand from reading the paper, other than possibly that it was flying too low and a wingtip hit the water, however having spoken to locals it seems that instead of towing the floating aircraft to shore and retrieving the trapped photographer there, rescuers smashed their way into the aircraft causing it to partially sink.

There were as usual plenty of "sportsboats" around but seemingly few people with any common sense.

The local lifeboat (which was stationed less than a kilometre away) took 40 minutes to arrive.

The picture above is of the aircraft when it had been towed to shore and grounded on the sands off the waterline.
