Here's a Schlumberger link on Flying Vintage Aircraft. Shows a TM at Cambridge. Definitely implies that you can do a PPL in them !!

Barbox the reason it woul take 7 years to be in a Tiger Moth if I didnt learn in it now is that when I go to university in one year I will struggle to have enough money to eat let alone fly and I will become poverty stricken for my 3 years there. After that it would take about 2 years to find a job and save up enough to start flying. That only adds up to 6 years, so I was wroing but 6 years is still very long. Between now and university next year is the only time ill have enough money to do any flying.
Tiger Moth for 30K! thats great! is it in good condition? Id love to buy it but I`ve only got a fraction of that. Do you think your friend would accept £15 a week?

Solent, you question Cambridge flying groups motives? There motives are to provide great vintage flying at cheap prices which cannot be found anywhere else. Infact they do not even make a profit which is why the Tiger Moths prices are so low compared to the £80 for 15 minutes which can be found at other airfields. Even the instructors are only paid expenses and do it for the love of flying the moth.

Im not sure what their names were but there was one fairly old lady there but she was probably under 65 who may have been Betty. I think she said she couldnt fly anymore due to a bad back caused by a car accident. I think someone else who runs it is called Dave.

Thanks for the good link kabz. I didnt quite understand your comment on one of your posts kabz, about me in a corner or something but im sure you were mocking me in some way!. Could you explain it as I didnt find it very clear, thanks.

Ever thought of UAS, Tiger Moth? UAS Volunteer Reservists are Officer Cadets (OC’S) of the RAFVR and as such are eligible for attendance pay, travel costs and messing allowance. They have no formal commitment to join the RAF and can leave (or be dismissed by) the Squadron at any time. There is a list of units at http://www.raf.mod.uk/links/index.html#uas

Tiger_Moth,

Go learn to fly your namesake. It's obvious that for you nothing else will do. Sometimes you have to go with what your heart tells you.

I realise that along with everyone else I've probably said the exact opposite somewhere else, but it just dawned on me that so-called common sense doesn't come into this; this is about love. So go and learn to fly Tiger Moths. As you will anyway, no matter what anyone says. And as a helicopter pilot how can I talk about being sensible anyway

One thing though; please don't act like we're somehow inferior or incomprehensible for having other aviation loves. Everyone's different.
