Question Where was everyone today?!?

I had a very pleasant mid morning prowl around the skies today in stunning conditions... but where was everyone else. Nobody was talking to London FIS hardly, I saw nought but one helicopter in an hour and a half and the club house was like a morgue.

Seemed odd, a lovely Saturday with half the country already on holiday...

You missed out.

It was really quiet along Cheshire plain/Shropshire today too. Up for two hours and saw no-one else, although listening out to Sleap as I flew past to the west, their runway was iced up and nobody was allowed to takeoff.

Flying! Gorgeous day here in central south, amazing viz but with a bitterly cold NW breeze (up to 20kts), down the main Goodwood runway. Quite a lot of activity around - spotted several fixed and one rotary in 90 minutes of floating around South Hants / West Sussex with TopUnicyclist. Great trip, only slightly spoilt by the engine stopping on the (very short!) roll-out.

Hey, I was Chippying and aeroing my way down over Shropshire (ex barton via LLR) to Sherloe strip near Wrekin, then back past Sleap (tought it looked quiet, but I saw a Yak nearby), Rednal, Peckforton, LLR (direct Northwich - Barton). Magic day!!!

Did an hour out of Rochester, swept down the M20, up past Dover and back in over Sheppey. Saw about 3 a/c enroute.

An excellent all day breakfast and then up for 6 pretty windy circuits - 5 in the circuit at one stage.

Simple, but gorgeous. Aren't we lucky.

Was flown as a pax with Slipslider earlier today out of Goodwood good views of the South Downs & coastline & harbours, first time though I've been in a plane that had had to be *pushed* off the active runway!

Thanks again Slipslider if you read this thread again - I'll let you know if I manage to get those little movies from the digital camera working on the computer!

Thumbs up

Spiney - You are a top guy. Not only did you give me direct Northwich/BTN today (saves time, but more importantly gives old SSD a view of some new territory) but I think t'was you a couple of weeks ago who worked me again in LLR past the two Pumas (Warlock formation) coming the other way. You picked up my Chippy as traffic orbiting near Hatton (sister's house - before I'd called you).

Keep looking after us PPLs. We need you. Hope the Christmas rosters allow for resonable cheer and the weather gives you some days like today for aviating.

Many thanks.

SSD

PS - SL going for an annual in Jan. We'll get that xponder fixed!

Hi SSD
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I remember the 'Warlocks'. Was going to ask you how you'd enjoyed Sherlowe as I'd flown in there myself about eight weeks ago and thought it very friendly. Even saw the old bus I did my first solo in. Have a good Christmas and all the best to everyone at Barton International.

Well, out of bed at 0745 which is unheard of for me on a Sat morning, then 30 mins deicing the PA28R followed by a 30 min local to Goring and back from Blackbushe as pax with other group owner. Then EGLK to Dunkeswell as P1 with 1 pax via Thruxton, Boscombe, Yeovil (thanks for the service!) at 4700'. Cup of char there, met some friends who came in from Thruxton in a Slingsby and then toddled off back to EGLK, this time as a pax. Stunning vis, smooth air above 2500' not a lot around until back in the London area. At one stage could see from Bristol to Bournemouth!!

Lovely day, makes me feel very privileged!!!

WWW,

Maybe something to do with the ridiculous cost of renting aircraft in this country coupled with the anti GA stance of the CAA/ATC etc.

Took an R22 and a passenger from Wolverhampton to Welshpool and back. You could see for miles, hardly any wind - the sort of day that reminds you why you bankrupt yourself in order to get airborne.
