Went to Henstridge yesterday, taking advantage of the brilliant weather.
All day breakfast went down very well with crew and passengers alike, and the place seemed to be heaving with visiting Xmas aviators.
It is great to see the place doing so well, and just a shame that they can't afford to do something about the terrible quality of the tarmac on the taxiways and parking areas.
Well worth a visit.

Funny WWW, I thought it was quiet too. But WX exceeded forecast so that kept them on the ground.
White Waltham -Old Sarum north about the danger zone and tumuli spotting + Avebury circle and hill from 2000'. Could easily see Solent and Southampton Water about 50 miles away. OS busy, sporty approach with northerly wind across the hangers. Long leisurely lunch and stroll around the hangars -met some old boy building a full scale model of an amphib to 'see if it works' -Grumman Goose style single seater!
Returned via Southampton water (thankyou Solent) and Portsmouth.
Aaaaah -it's good to fly!
Arrow2 -that sounds like my kind of day too!
Happy Xmas

LowNSlow,
You havn't missed much today. I took off from Redhill today and the low level inversion layer was awful.
I turned west to come home and was almost IMC!!!!!
I had called "Godstone" what I wanted to call was "Godstone but I still can't see the field". I headed to where I had left it last time, and luckily nobody had moved it so I was able to call "Downwind" with a sort of 65% chance I was right. Turning finals for 08 and suddenly all was clear.
A day to be down here wishing we were up there!!!

It was well good up North. But my flight included a circumnavigation of Manchester Zone. Thought I'd have to turn back at one point due low cloud over the Peak District hills east of the zone. But the man let me come a bit west and all was well (if very turbulent at timres). Further north it was good CAVOK, though I heard a JP turn back due weather further south.

Been "off air" for a bit due to home office reorganisation - but had great flight dec 22nd in an archer out of Barton up to Windermere (against a strong headwind) and then back at 160 kts groundspeed (with my US mate who brought my new GPS over). Dec 31st had a freezing but fun trip in the Luton local from Barton. 3rd took my son up in the archer attempting crosland moor but hit SSD's aforesaid low cloud over the hills. We were able to fly over it (whilst remiaing in sight of ground to the west) but had to return back to barton without landing. But at last, i've been able to get out of sight of barton for bit. 2002 has to be more x-countries for me, i'm so fed up of locals all the time! Happy everythings to all aviators out there.

After a cracking day of flying I am sitting at my computer on a Sunday evening feeling very pleased with myself.
High pressure up in the north of the country ensured cold clear and crisp weather and after a hassle free and quick check ride first thing, I did a cross country with a land away.
After doing some flying in the US recently, words couldn't describe how it felt to get into a familiar aircraft and speak to ATCO's whose voices you recognise and look out at the beautiful snow covered landscape.
Smooth flying conditions, ATC were bending over backwards to help and landings were very nice for a change. The word greaser is a gross understatement!!!!!! <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
Makes it all worth while
