I am trying to arrange life / accident insurance cover and am having some difficultes getting a quote that is even remotely close to reasonable (eg Standard Life over £900 per month for £500,000 of cover). Problem is the aviation loading (does this sound familiar) where I disclose aerobatics, formation flying with the possibility in the future of Formation displays and competition aeros. I am 260ish hours, around 80 hours on current type (Yak 52), nil accidents.
Has anyone found an insurer that takes a reasonable approach to aeros / formation etc and if so, can they make any recommendations please?
Many thanks.

Sorry, can't help, but you've got me worried now.
I've got 100hrs, and I'm getting about 2 per week at the moment - but nobody has ever suggested I should do anything about life insurance.
Should I be worried?

Most insurers exclude aviation other than as a fare paying passenger on a scheduled service, or words to that effect, unless they specifically agree to include private aviation. My experience has been that insurers then impose a loading on the premium after reviewing your level of experience and, in my case, the type of flying that is being currently undertaken and which is anticipated in the near future. The secret (I am hoping) is to find an insurer that is sufficiently educated about the risks to formulate a reasonable proposal. However insurers don't appear to be too impressed with aeros or formation flying, ranking it right up there with cave diving and base jumping...
