Post PPrune Fly-in 30 Sep at Sherburn - The Details

Just in case they got lost in the original thread, I've started this new one for the day itself.

Venue is Sherburn in Elmet airfield on Saturday, 30 September. Sherburn is south of York, just below Church Fenton (and inside their MATZ, but they should be closed with it being a Saturday) Linton-on-Ouse may be controlling the MATZ clutch so give them a call just in case.

Sherburn Radio is on 122.6

I suggest we try and get there at about 10-11am. The Sherburn Aero Club are very pleased to see us and I am hoping to arrange a big table for lunch at about 1:30pm. I'm happy to provide bowls of chips for all - if you want more, then the canteen and bar can provide from their usually excellent menu.

As for entertainment, can I suggest we all pile into the bigger aircraft and hop over to the Real Aeroplane Company at Breighton at about 11:30am. (Spit, Hurricane, Jungmeister etc etc). Its about a 10 minute flight including circuits. We could add in a second hop to the flying museum at Elvington (as well or instead) and be back for lunch by 1:30 so that we've got time to get away home from about 2:30pm.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I can tee it up with Sherburn.

Would someone like to come up with details of how we recognise each other? Alternatively, first name and PPrune name on a home-made badge would do. I will leave a pile of blank badges in Ops, together with carefully worded, single-syllable instructions on how to use the difficult stuff like biro, pin etc.

Finally, I will ask Sherburn if we can park our aircraft together. When you're taxiing in, ask for the 'PPrune PParking PPlace' - you should get some sort of response.....

Fingers crossed for the wx...

Nicely done rightstuffer, that all sounds good to me, especially Elvington. They've got a replica Halifax there in the colours of Friday the 13th which my dad was a flight engineer on.

Sounds good Rightstuffer. Not sure I can get there that early in a R22 - they're not known for high speeds, but definitely see you all for lunch, wx permitting.

Red face

Nothing to do with this thread lowNslow, but my Pa-in-law was also on Halifaxes - Bomb Aimer when they were used by the Pathfinder Force. We must compare notes....

If my 100hr check goes well I'll be there.

I'll also wear my official Ash Bash PPrune t-shirt so that I'm easily recognisable.

I should also be able to offer a couple of seats in my trusty but not very exciting workhorse for nipping between venues.

Regards

I'll wear my Ash Bash tee shirt too. I could also wear my Flyer List hat. And a PPRuNe badge...could end up looking very strange at this rate.

Pilot formerly known as R22, where did you get your Pprune badge from? Why the name change? Could it be that you are moving on from R22's? Did the sight and sound of the R44 just get TOO TEMPTING?

I think I'll wear my spare head a la Zaphod Beeblebrox. Two heads are better that one.

rightstuffer, which squadron was you pa-in-law in? Dad was in 158 based at Lisset which is just down the road from Elvington.

lNs - I'll have to check his log-books to see the sqns he was on. I do know he was on 35 Sqn cos I was based at Scampton, and he was with me one Friday happy-hour when they found out he was an ex-mate. He duly got a special invitation when 35 had one of their big re-unions and I subsequently had to rescue him from the top of a flag-pole outside the Mess at 1:30 in the morning where he was beating the sh*t out of the current OC 35 Sqn with a pillow. I hope I can climb flag-poles at age 65! I do know he got round the infamous Hamburg raid doing correction marking in one of the leading Lancasters. I'll have a look in his logs for 158 Sqn and let you know at the Fly-in.

I'll have to quiz my father in law as well!
He was awarded a DFM when serving as a mid upper gunner on Wellingtons and Lancs out of Scampton and Woodhall.

Back to the bunfight...
Just managed to sort out the Pup for the day... thanks Andy... he had her booked for the day.

Thought... I believe that Sherburn can get boggy after heavy rain, should we have an alternate just in case?

I am at Gamston so can travel anywhere, if we stay Yorkshire I suppose we can nominate Sandtoft or straight to Elvington.

No doubt we will be discussing further neare the day.

Zaphod... I'll have my Babel Fish in my ear and towel under my arm...

LowNSlow, I don't have a PPRuNe badge yet, but Rightstuffer said he'd leave a pile of blank badges in Ops on the day. You see, I do read this forum . I changed my name cos...um...I felt like it. And cos I like the new name better. And cos I worked out how to wangle the registering so that I could. If I think hard enough, I may come up with a better reason. But no, not because I've flown the R44 yet, I just can't afford it

Beagler, apart from the extra head, you'll recognise me cos I'll be wearing my completely dark anti-panic glasses.

R22, sorry Whirlybird, ah yes, read the whole post before asking questions. I used to have the same problem in exams... reading the whole question before answering it is always a good idea.

I just noticed that my official PPRuNe Ash Bash teeshirt has my old official PPRuNe name on it, ie R22. Ah, well, I guess I'm stuck with both names for a bit.

I also have ANOTHER official PPRuNe teeshirt, but without the approach pattern and all the names and so on on the back - if you don't know what I mean pray for good wx and come to the fly-in and you'll find out. But anyway, anyone want the second one as I don't need two. Shall we auction it at the fly-in? Any ideas?

IMHO...

Whirlybird is a FAR better name than R22

(this has nothing to do with the gender rationalisation that went on when I first started lurking!)

Thank you stiknruda.

I think so too, that's why I changed it. Now when you all get used to it I have to work out how to get the "formerly R22" off it, and that means I'll lose all my posts again (sigh). It's a hard life on PPRuNe.

Rightstuffer, did you say 10.30? It keeps getting earlier!!! Jeez, what time do you guys get up, or are you all flying jets?

I'll be there, wx permitting, hopefully about 11.30 but for lunch anyway. Might have a spare seat in a R22 from Shobdon as I'd like someone else to navigate since looking at a map and flying a helo requires three hands. But must be under 12 stone as I don't want to have to re-fuel on the way, and share at least part of costs (not as expensive as you think!)
