Wouldn't dream of abusing 123.45 but will listen out just in case anybody is on freq. We'll probably be at FL85 with a descent starting at GAM to get under the airway. Where do you fly from (Wickenby?)

FL85...in a Beagle...whoa nose bleed time.

In that case I will be at FL95. Anyway, the prize for highest flight has changed, I opened the case of Bergerac I bought in France and found to my horror and disgust I had bought a case of WHITE Wine...Yuck

So, the prize for highest is now a lovely bottle of White Bergerac. Yum Yum.

I will be hitting GAM about 10:30 ish. See you all there.

Hi NewBloke

If you are at FL95 watch out for all the IFR traffic tracking between 090 degrees and 179 degrees

We'll be in a Bonanza (Beagler is in the Beagle Pup 2). I *lurve* white wine so we might even up the cruising level a bit!!

See you on Saturday

Have regularly flown along the east side of the contry at FL 85 and more in the Pup!

Thing is... I've got a dodgy filling at the moment which always gives me a warning twinge at about 3000 ft. so the altitude record won't be on for me... I'll hold at 5000 ft.

I am actually based at Gamston so I'll get overhead at 10.20 and await the calls.

It's been very wet up here today... let's hope that Sherburn isn't too waterlogged.

B

Regret won't be able to make it Saturday. Hope the weather's good.
However, if anybody is White Waltham way Sunday, I'm hosting a lunch for a few car nuts.
Ask for Bruno.

Question

WX is going to be on the low side. Does anyone know what is the condition of the grass R/W?
I have 2-3 seats available if someone wants to have a ride. T/O from Elstree at about 09:30.

Early days yet but it doesn't look good, does it?

Given that they had almost an inch of rain yesterday and more today I guess wet would describe the runways

In these conditions (short, wet grass) I wouldn't risk 01/19 (I'd be looking for a min of 520m); 11/29 would make me sweat a bit (but wouldn't put me off) so I hope the wind is favouring 06/24.

I just hope it dries out a bit (a lot actually) retractables and mud runways don't go well together

We could head towards Sandtoft... Sue's cafe or whatever... but the place has a history of bankruptcy and new management.

Leicester would be good... excellent facilities (good club house with restaurant)and 3 solid runways.

I would be wary of Sherburn if the weather continues this way... don't fancy going back looking like an entry from the RAC rally.

Early wx forecast

SATURDAY
A weak trough will move eastwards through the country on Saturday morning,
followed by a weak ridge. There could be an odd shower through the morning, but these will be clearing quickly, leaving the afternoon mainly dry and fine. Thicker cloud will move into Scotland later with some rain
approaching from the west. Winds will be W F3 becoming WSW F6 in western Scotland later.

Why don't we decide on a contigency airfield with hard runways.

Maybe York/Rufforth or Gamston? (Still fairly local)
We need to make a decision soon, as I fear the rain will keep on coming!

Sherburn's OK for me since R22s can hover-taxi till they find a dry bit of grass! But Leicester's closer, and I've never been there, and Sherburn is nearly two hours each way which is the longest flight I've ever done in a R22, and they're tiring to fly for long distances.

I'm happy if we change it, but can we decide soon, since I'm planning on leaving Friday afternoon and staying overnight a bit nearer to Shobdon than my usual hour and a half drive. Maybe we'll have a better idea what the weather's likely to be by tonight.

Alas I shan't be able to make this one. With the recent deluge of rain our stip now resembles some very soggy marsh land.

This has also stopped the aircraft getting away for its 100hr check earlier in the week and with only 2 hours left that will be the priority I'm afraid.

Bad timing unfortunately but have fun anyway !!

Regards

Unhappy

I checked with the CFI at Sherburn this morning. They had rain last night but the runways are all useable. Sherburn apparently dries very quickly. In their opinion, as long as they don't get a cloudburst between now and Saturday, even light twins should be OK.

I will ask their CFI again what he thinks on Friday evening. If he is happy with the conditions for us all to come in on Saturday, I will open a thread for it to let everyone know. Check this forum after 5pm Friday (tomorrow!)

rightstuffer, I will be computer-less after early afternoon tomorrow. Do you have a phone number or something, so I can find out where we're going? E-mail me if you don't want to tell everyone. Thanks.
