Unhappy The Price of Fuel

While paying throught he nose for my fuel bills I thought I'd do some research and found this web site:
http://www.thehangar.co.uk/survey/fuel.htm

Sensible entries suggest a range of price per litre from £0.40 at Jersey to £1.13 at Ronaldsway. It would be well worthwhile for most of us to fly to Jersey (on NVQ rates) pick up a full tank of fuel. Claim drawback from HM govt. and get a refund from the flying club.

Haven't done it yet, but I expect it would make for V. cheap flying and a good day out. I'll let you know when I do.

Thats the way to do it! There are huge differences in fuel price around the UK - keep up with where the fuel is cheaper and you will save money. Henstridge for example is good in the South - if we are flying near it we will drop in to load up W&B permitting.

Also if you are heading to Western France anywhere in the Channel Islands is worthwhile for fuelling, although you will have to do flight plans into and out of the islands as well as ensuring customs regs are complied with.

Try Sherburn in Elmet if you're in t'North. The landing fee is waived if you refuel and its the cheapest around. (Its also a very friendly place to visit...)

Caution about that website. Anyone can enter any amount. It depends entirely on peoples' honesty.

FP what's the procedure for the rebate? Do you have to land overseas? How much can you get back? What paperwork do you need?
Tell tell tell.....

Althought the survey list provided by the "hanger" is very good their are a number of entries that are very dated. We have had three price rises at Rochester (still only 91p )in three months. If we want the survey to be useful some of the Airfields listed need to be updates - any volunteers !

In reply to - "rightstuffer".... you need a form HO60 "Claim for drawback of Excise duty on Hydocarbon oil shipped as stores on foreign going aircraft" - I think there is a later form but they still accept both. Here ytou describe waht you are taking out and when and you send it off to them and await the cheque. It was 27.34p per litre last time I asked but it may be more now - anyone know.

Rightstuffer, as stated the form you need is a HO60 from HM customs office. It needs to be fully completed before your departure. You can claim for the total capacity of the aircraft as long as all the fuel was duty paid, i.e. it was wasn't filled up last trip in the Channel Islands. You can claim 27.34p per litre.

There was an article concerning overseas flying in the August edition of 'Pilot', and it explains it all there too.

Rusty cessna you are quite right, G-OCPF is the PA32 I fly from Exeter, along with PA28'S from Plymouth
