I founds that useful as lately I have been wondering what exactly the dashed black lines mean.
These are labelled on the diagram linked to above as "Trough... boundary of low pressure", and I think I knew that, but I do not know how I should interpret that... i.e. should I expect something akin to frontal activity in such places?

There's an interesting description on troughs on this <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/weather/tg/wtrough/wtrough.htm" target="_blank">USA Today link.</a> Waving your mouse over the diagram(s) starts a simulation of what happens in a trough.

A site I find VERY useful, particularly for the instant METARS and TAFS and the graphic US full colour weather maps is:
