No further details but a lucky man....spent many hours myself in the past gliding at Feshiebridge and not the place to do an out landing...glad all seems to have ended happy

Do the Gliders talk to Jock Info?
I have never manged to talk to you below 5k in that area and all the way up to Aviemore always have to go to the upper controller if I want to speak to someone.
Any plans for a transmitter on Cairngorm?

Mad Jock...you not trying hard enough!!.....the only blind spot is if following the A9 between Blair Atholl and Aviemore below 3000ft. Above those levels should not be a problem as we have a TX/RX sight on the NE Moray coast, hence if following the A9 you are blanked by the high ground ( cairngorm) to the NE of that route.......Occas glider's do call us looking to get clearance into the upper air if contacted some descent wave.

When I was in hospital recovering from a wee forced landing that I almost managed to walk away from the spinal consultant told me a story about how two glider pilots came in with damaged backs. He asked them what had happened and they said they had had a gliding accident. No, he corrected them, you had a failure to glide accident.

Generally Feshie/Aboyne/Easterton are all working 130.1
Occasionaly we'll call Scottish depending on whether we want upper airspace access.
Give us a bell next time your in the general area and we'll let you know who's out and about.

Yep, all 3 clubs can operate midweek. Generally, its just weekends but if the weathers good and enough club members are interested then midweek flying is a go'er. Can I interest you in a gift voucher/trial lesson??

Just got back from Feshie - I was there all last week. The pilot had 2 broken ankles which have been pinned plus some back damage. Hopefully not too serious.
Discussions are now going on as to how to get the glider off the hill (and will the insurer pay?) as it is regarded as an unacceptable eyesore by the landowner. Helicopter retrieve seems the only option

Thanks for the update Astir....hope you had a great week and wave conditions provided some good flights....I was up Loch Fyne on Saturday and the wave cloud there looked amazing!!

The wave wasn't easy to get into. I think that the best done all week was 9000 feet by one of the locals. On the Friday though the wind direction meant that the back of the ridge was working - i.e the Loch Einich cliffs, and that was truly mind blowing. See some photos below

It would be interesting to know what survival equipment he had in his glider. I used to take my RAFGSA club to Aboyne in the early 1970s and, apart from the usual full oxygen system, we carried PLBs, space blankets, survival packs, first aid kits etc.
Wave flying is magic but it has to be remembered that if you get in the wrong part of the wave system in the Cairngorms (or anywhere else for that matter) you can be on the ground within minutes.
I think my record was a loss of 14,000 feet in 4 nautical miles!
I believe that the Cairngorms is still the biggest wilderness in UK?
